Chapter 06: Act I
FRANKENHYDE: ACT I—
§ instructions.
Frankenhyde Act I is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.
A few reminders. The city's setting is steampunk themed, so while for the most part it follows ye old Victorian England style, you have a lot of Industrial accents and odd machines about, including small airships. There is a river, so ports and docks are available but although this place may seem large, it's actually a finite space. Sailing down the river will be an endless loop back to the start with fog being the only visible "boundary." Passing through this fog will them back to where they were. There are also numerous research labs and other buildings, but many of them are locked or sealed behind an invisible barrier so no one can enter. The "locals" are all blots, so they are more like living puppets that will have minimum response to anyone who tries to interact with them. Most are neutral, but will attack if provoked. There are also some that are immediately hostile, and are differentiated by the sparks of electricity they generate around their bodies. The "safe zone" for this campaign will be a designated apartment building. Everyone can either bunk together or choose their own room.
Finally, just to be clear, characters who are assigned roles will know beforehand and can either communicate with their partner beforehand or just wait until they're in the scene. To get to their scene, characters must enter a specially marked door in the apartment building to be transported into their scene. They will automatically return upon completion (or if something goes horribly horribly wrong). Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.
Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.
§ sub quests.
Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level.
¶ I. Help the Scientists. A lot of work needs to be done to help the research experiments be a success, some of it a bit more unsavory than the rest.
¶ II. Help the Locals. Like most damaged stories, the local townspeople are not real but Blots taking the form of the original residents. Most are friendly and continue about their lives without paying much attention to the Aspect and providing basic assistance or keeping out of their way. They do not speak but seem to understand if communicated to.
¶ III. Trick-or-Treat! It seems everyone came in time for Halloween. Although not quite as festive as current day, the children still participate in some lighthearted trick-or-treating. The Aspects are free to participate either in wearing costumes, doling out candy, or playing tricks, but they will want to keep an eye out. Some of these costumes appear too good, and some unfortunate accidents and incidents will reveal odd mutant experiments have escaped and mingled with the crowds. Most are not hostile and just cause accidents and disturbances, so they can be gathered and returned to the various research labs. Others may prove a bit more "bite-y" so more force may be necessary to subdue them.
¶ IV. Wildcard. Make up your own prompt!

- Gather Ingredients. There are a lot of things that go into creating life, so cue the fetch quest. Items range from organs from wildlife to various plants and herbs to tools such as thread, needles, and large bolts. These items can be found throughout the town and outside of the forest and can be left at either of the buildings that is set for Frankenstein's and Jekyll's laboratories. Do note that no one except those who are cast for the scenes can go inside (there is an impenetrable barrier that will shock anyone who tries to enter).
- Bzzzzt. The scientists also need to generate a lot of electricity. Outside each laboratory are various generators used to harness and conduct electricity: lightning rods that can be attached anywhere, strange boxes that need to be powered, and even an odd looking metal ball that can be opened to physically capture lightning. Just be careful to not get shocked!

- Science Fair. There is a local science fair being held that anyone can participate in! Rewards...aren't that great, but it's the experience that matters. But as expected, things don't go smoothly as various experiments and projects go awry. With the technology as it is, this can be even more dangerous as more than one is dealing with explosive fuel or have way out-of-the-box inventions such as flying motorized bikes or small automaton of some kind.
- Dangerous Blots. There are some blots who are badly damaged by Erasers and are more prone to attack. Those that have small electric sparks around them will have jerky movements and must be subdued or destroyed. There are also real Erasers lurking about, taking the form of unidentifiable homunculus and small chimera.

¶ IV. Wildcard. Make up your own prompt!
SCENE #1: VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN AND HENRY JEKYLL - LUCA BALSA AND SKULL KID
explodego haywire. Other projects from other attendants may also add to the chaos.]no subject
The situation seemed to spark familiarity within him. The competition... It felt so much like that exhibition... He could still remember the encounter that preluded his apprenticeship, the first real step he took in realizing his greatest invention.
He may be working alone and his memories may still be hazy, but he knew this scene was his chance to start all over and learn from his mistakes.
To that end, he's taken some special precautions. A fence of ropes and several feet of distance separate the public from the machine he's working on. Several lightning rods have been strategically placed in the space between like posts to an invisible fence, and he's made absolutely sure to include a switch to completely shut off the power if necessary. He couldn't let anything come between him and his invention now. Not tragedy, not lost details...
His character was supposed to be competing, right? He couldn't help but look over at "Jekyll's" project as he continued work on his own. ]

SCENE #7: VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN AND FRANKENSTEINâS MONSTER - HELIOS AND LENA SABREWING
no subject
Regardless, he's not sure he could be mean to the person he's working with, but he will do his best. And after their initial greetings and sensing that his partner, Lena, is far less enthused about her role, Helios is going to be taking even more care and consideration to try and make things comfortable for her. He even had considered giving her a blanket and pillow while she waited on the table!
Which...is a bit of a problem because he's already found a "problem." With the thunder and lightning booming around the lab, he's supposed to turn on the machine that would actually bring the creature to life. But what if that harms Lena???]
Er, Miss Lena? No cables are connected to you, are they? I have to turn on these machines, but I don't want to accidentally harm you in case these really do generate electricity.

(frozen comment) ---- INDIVIDUAL TOP LEVELS SEPARATOR ----
Minato Arisato | Persona 3 | Thanatos
¶ I. Help the Scientists. - Gather the ingredients
While he would miss how adorable the fox ear and tail was, Minato had to admit. Having his wings again was super useful. It was a lot easier to get to high places and scavenge for the requested items than it would if he had to climb or trespass into buildings. He avoided the items that required organs and other unsavory bits, but finding plants and herbs or even tools was a bit easier. He held a book on herbs in hand, trying to find another that was needed among the list of ingredients. He frowned.
"...how do I find purple flowers if everything is in black and white?" He muttered to himself. Oh boy. Maybe he should skip these and look for tools?
¶ II. Help the Locals. - Dangerous Blots
Minato was quick to shove a blot out of the way from another that appeared to be infected. The telltale sparks and jerky movements the key. His wings were used to propel him backwards at the swipe, but as soon as his boots landed back on the ground, he pushed himself forward to use his sword to attack right back. This one seemed too far gone to be subdued. He clicked in tongue when it dodged, parry another swipe of claws. Okay, so maybe this wasn't just an infected blot after all.
He tried to move the shadows around the creature, intending to hold it in place to subdue to get a better shot at destroying the damn thing but it seemed to be too quick!

II - Help the Locals
Ren summons his bow and quiver and fires several arrows at the creature. Although he hasn't practiced fighting with arrows yet, there wasn't any time. Then again, sometimes in order to learn, it's sink or swim.
Plus it's a good distraction from having gotten himself possessed by his own shadow.
He's in his own outfit, even though it kind of clashes with the bow and arrows.
"Are you okay?"

seto kaiba | santa claus
Kaiba has to earn his keep by inventing things. With each build, he can hopefully work his way up the ladder to buying enough to build something truly awe-inspiring...so where is he starting? His very small start is a mini-model of his universe's solar system, each planet rotating around a gear carefully timed to mimic their approximate relative orbits.
It's all going fairly well, at least, until the model starts to vibrate and spin away. Look out, fellow inventors! It might be headed for impact with your work, even as he desperately lunges across the table to grab it.
"Get back here!"
trick or treat
Later, he takes a break from the frustrating work of digging for parts to ruthlessly dispose of all the candy he's accumulated. He's invented a little candy pistol, actually, and he's made a game of shooting chocolate balls into baskets. Most of the crowd seems to think this is fun!
Except the lumbering husk of darkness and electricity. Kaiba cranks up the force on his pistol, a burst of steam shooting out the back, and shoots a jawbreaker right between its eyes. Which...sadly, does not break jaws. As there are no jaws to break. But it does stagger a bit.
"Back off unless you want cavities...real ones!"
letters to santa
Of course, a familiar season approaches, and with that, certain aspects of his essence are growing stronger. He's fortunately resisted the urge to eat nothing but milk and cookies, but he still has a duty to perform.
Outside Kaiba's apartment room, a simple note is posted above a mailbox decorated with red and white gears.
I don't think I'll be able to return to the North Pole any time soon, so if for some reason you want a gift for Christmas...drop a note here. And if you haven't been naughty, you just might get it. And if you have been naughty? I'll know. Be warned.
Wishing us all a relatively safe and painless holiday, as futile as that sounds right now, Santa
Kaiba hammers the note above the mailbox and stares at it for a good few moments before nodding his approval and turning to head back inside.
((ooc: for that last one feel free to catch him outside and ask questions, or just drop a letter!))

It's a very nice vessel. He whistles lowly as he gazes up, admiring the view.

Zidane Tribal | Final Fantasy IX | Aladdin
Not given a main role it seems, but they still had other things to do, Zidane's already looking for those other ways to help. Turned out, one of those ways was simple: gather ingredients. Problem was what some of those ingredients were. Not all of them were going to be found in town - some he'd actually probably have to try hunting for.
"Let's get this scavenger hunt going~!"
II. Helping the Scientists - But Not Really...
It was a thought at first really. If he was going to go out and about to gather ingredients for the scientists, there had to be a way to cut down on some travel times. Now, they're not exactly the same, but a lot of them did appear close to or similar enough to a small cargo ship in his world.
And, hey, if it helped them complete the story overall in the end, right?
... Time to get an airship.
III. Help the Locals - Dangerous Blots
He's not good with science-y stuff so he avoids helping out at the science fair - though, from a distance, he's probably come up with some of the same a few others participating do. Observations aside, there's something else he's keeping his eyes peeled for.
Apparently, the locals were blots and some of them were acting up. Messed up by some Erasers slinking around the crowds which he also had to look out for. Fine with him, but it did suck a few blots had to suffer for it.
IV. Wildcard

II Airship Time
And was likely why and how 76 had ended up looking over the airships, slipping on to one easily enough and keeping an eye on those within. Harmless as they seemed it just seemed far too easy for them to turn as well.
Even if he seemed to be milling about, he was looking for easiest access to the pilot's area. The sort of loose security that was even within the airship itself-
"Too easy doesn't sit well."

Luca Balsa | Identity v | Count of Monte Cristo
[ Luca felt like he was walking through an old photograph from home. Gas lamps lined the cobblestone streets he walked down. He felt oddly comforted by squarish buildings with suspicious alleyways, populated by blots in familiar attire. Not one of these less dangerous blots sneered at him, as if the accident that ruined him never even happened...
Even the clothes he found himself wearing seemed comfortably familiar. There were some odd accessories, most notably the strange eyewear that had been strategically placed over his bad eye, but he was sure he must have worn the outfit itself before... To the exact sort of event being advertised on the banners.
He stood in the road, staring at the advertisement hanging over the street with a distant smile. He was so close... Wasn't he going to play one of the scientists soon? ]
Soon... [ A bittersweet chuckle escapes his lips. ]
Glowing dim as an ember... (Help the Scientists: Bzzzzt.)
[ His essence may have given him an advantage in finding the materials, but his main contribution seems to be his expertise in fiddling with electrics.
You'll probably find him muttering to himself as he fixes the wiring or connects multiple strange boxes together so the current flows through them. You'd think someone like him would get himself zapped more than a few times, but through the organized chaos it seems like he knows exactly what he's doing!
There's just one problem. He's so focused on these wires that he's not going to notice anything else around him. Which means he's more vulnerable to things such as hostile blobs or escaped experiments... ]
Things my heart used to know... (Help the Locals: Science Fair.)
[ If he's not rigging up electric devices or playing his role, he's helping out at the science fair.
It's really easy for him to get lost in the hubbub. Whatever people were inventing back home pales in comparison to the marvelous contraptions on display here. A part of him can still see himself presenting that grand invention he worked so hard on... Would such a machine be remarkable in this story? Perhaps it might be more so in the Index, where the technology is--
His thoughts are interrupted by the sight of a participant quickly losing control of their machine. ]
LOOK OUT! [ He rushes over and tackles the participant out of the way, mere seconds before the machine explodes.
... Luca's shaking. He doesn't want to look behind him. He isn't sure if he suffered any more damage just yet... But the participant he finds pinned under him... They're... They're still breathing, thank God. He moves himself off of them and helps them up. ] S-Si... Are you... Are you alright?
[ The participant is a blot. They can only nod in response.
Luca grabs the bewildered blot and holds them tight, still shivering with shock. ] Thank god... Thank god you're alright...
[ ... Well, it's not like anyone else was too close to the machine anyway. Luca just needs a moment to recover. Much to the blot's confusion. ]
Things it yearns to remember... (Wildcard)
[ Feel free to hit me up if you have something else in mind. ]
Help the Scientists
And yet, she couldn't help but look at a rather odd person dealing with the electrics. Slowly but surely, she just had to tap his back and...!]

Ren Amamiya | Persona 5 | Robin Hood
Ren isn't exactly a big science guy, or really the type to be serious about school, but that doesn't mean he was stupid.
He makes an automaton arm that pours liquid for someone. It doesn't go too well. Either when the timing is off and it pours tea for too long, overflowing the tea cup, or in that latest attempt, it goes out of control.
So unless your character is quick enough, they might get sprayed with water.
Treat or treat
Ren decided to have some fun and dress up for the holiday. It couldn't hurt.
So he's wandering around in his own costume. Even if he doesn't get much candy, at least he has an excuse to dress up. At the moment, he's entertaining some young blobs by pretending to do magic like a wizard.
Care to join or mess up his act?
Dangerous Blots
Oh great, more of them. After having to help Minato deal with some, it seems Ren ran into more infected blobs and this time he's alone. With no back-up at all. Great.
He summons his bow and quiver and gets it ready. Unfortunately he is quickly surrounded. This isn't good. Not at all.
Help?

With his spear in his hand, he was ready for a surprise attack should they look around.

Naomi Kimishima | Trauma Team | Sea Witch
Given her knowledge of flora and fauna as well as how to efficiently collect and harvest useful properties, it's only natural she would gather materials for the other 'scientists' taking part in the main act. However, she knows others would be gathering ingredients... and there was no guarantee that they would be wholly successful using all the materials they were brought.
...
The attentive eye would see her strolling in and out of town... and occasionally taking a detour to the nearest, cleaner water source away from the populous. Once there, she walks out onto the water and disappears beneath the surface.
[II. Help the Locals - Science Fair]
Less present to help participants with their projects, Naomi's there for the cases where something goes awry. They might be blots, but their was their realm - their story - and injuries to them were very real.
So she lingers nearby with those few medics on site, ready to help when needed. And goodness, she already envisioned a busy day.
[III. Trick-or-Treat]
An amusing feature being able to transform was the ability to both trick and treat. Watching the trick or treaters as well from on high as a crow with silver-tipped feathers or a white cat with blue eyes, yes, this made it easier than waiting in a temporary residence and being disrupted in the middle of work...
... as well, she could watch for those few experiments that had gotten loose and lure them back to their proper labs. As for the few that decided to be more 'bite-y', she had methods in which to handle those quickly and quietly.

Mordred | Fate Apocrypha | Krampus
[Mordred's not exactly thrilled with the names involved in this story's title, so that's why she's out here dealing with this instead of helping with the scientists. Though at least for once, she isn't complaining about outfit even if it's probably not the best attire to be wearing while tracking down damaged Blots and Eraser creatures. But anyways, policing not!London and keeping it free of weird crap is something she feels right at home doing, so that's where the bulk of her Act I time is going to be spent.
So feel free to lend a hand with taking down one of the Eraser monsters or with subduing some of the Blots. Or just run into here wherever, she'll be all over town or as much as one can be with the limited space.]
[III]
[Trick or treating is a mostly new concept for Mordred. Sure's there's ancient historical examples and things like that, but she really didn't have much opportunity to participate, if anything like that happened in Camelot. And it wasn't Halloween in Trifas despite Frankenstein's Monster and Dracula being there, and even if it was, she didn't have much time for fun during all of...that.
So this is new, but she doesn't have any problems with it. She's just mostly watching people hand out candy and keeping an eye out in case anything's amiss, like with the Erasers earlier. Definitely not planning on participating though. Which doesn't stop someone from handing her candy. Presumably they've mistaken her Krampus bag for a candy bag.]
Hey, I'm not-
[She just kind of stops, figuring it's pointless to argue with the Blot, as she digs the candy out of the bag. She'll look it over once or twice before starting to unwrap it, she didn't ask for it, but it's better than letting it go to waste, right?]
[II-2]
As a hoard of homunculus approaches the town, Kazuma jumps off a nearby rooftop and pounces them. Even if it's not really Hyde in control, his method of exterminating his enemies is still not the cleanest. Ink splatters all over the place as he tears into them like rag dolls.]

Soldier: 76 | Overwatch | Raw Head (Raw Head and Bloody Bones)
[He kept himself scarce whenever around the apartment building that was their designated base. Hell, he even scaled up the side of the building to get to the apartment he'd claimed far away from the other Aspects.
Likely why once things were quiet he'd come out, a pack over his shoulder, and ducked in to the kitchen area. Mask still obscuring his face, and bag near him as he claimed it.
Didn't take him long to find what he wanted, the smells in the air filled with a sweetness of fresh cut fruits and something cooking on the stove. A bit of citrus in the air. Made a little habit out of this. A quart jar of some clear liquid within reach, flipping a flapjack in the air and catching it, creating a nice stack of the fluffy looking things already.
Was humming something as he worked, peeling and cutting fruit when there was no pan to watch.]

[But Karkat expects most humans to be asleep at this time, so the scent of fresh fruit and some sort of cooking definitely catches his attention. So he makes his way down from the apartments to the kitchen, perking up when he sees not only a familiar feral man, but also a stack of strange food and fresh fruit.]
[And... were those peaches?]

Gobo Fraggle | Fraggle Rock | Alice (Alice in Wonderland)
A - Help the Scientists - Gather Ingredients
[If there was one thing Gobo liked to do and was good at (if he said so himself), it was finding all sorts of random bits and baubles. One may find him (1) gathering plants, going through the outskirts of the forest (or the occasional herb basket growing in someone's window); or (2) scrounging around for hard good-scraps in bins, caught in storm vents, left in hansom cabs, and wherever else he can find them.
In either case he's got the items being put in a little satchel he's got with him. A little help watching his six would always be appreciated, and if nothing else something as pink as he stands out in this environment...]
B - Help the Scientists - Bzzzzt
[Ever wanting to do something with his hands, Gobo is also helping put together the assorted technology to harness the electricity. At the moment he was sitting on the floor with a metal box between his splayed legs, putting together assorted wires. He paused, referenced an instruction sheet, then made another connection. A quick glance around, and he grabbed the power plug and connected it too-
*BZZAKH*
-and coughed out a few puffs of smoke. Now one singed, frizzy Fraggle, Gobo disconnected the power and checked back to the sheet, squinting a little. Must've missed where the green wire versus the red wire went...]
C - Help the Locals - Dangerous Blots
[The cane with his outfit hid his Essence-given vorpal sword, a comfort to have at hand at all times. Particularly when he comes across a few of the herky-jerky Blots staggering around the town. Stepping back a bit, he watched them in surprised horror as they dragged themselves around, attacking a nearby citizen. Then he grit his teeth and popped the seal on the blade, pulling it out.]
Hey!
[The Blots stopped and turned back, heads swiveling unnaturally. Then, dropping the one they'd attacked, they started shuffling his way. Gobo's expression hardened and he dropped the sheath part, now holding the sword with both hands.]
Pick on someone who can at least fight back!
D - At Home
[Whatever else happens out there on the street, Gobo is glad to have this place to wind down. While he could be found in his room- themed like a balloonist's, with maps, canvas, and the like -he is most often in one of the common areas. He can't quite keep himself from checking on others, and though his own cooking skills are lacking, he can at least bring food and drink to any who might need it.
Gobo himself can also be found in the dining area, with a bit of snack or hot drink against the chill of the city and the rain, taking a well deserved break. Sit and chat with him for a while, in case you might need a friend.]
E - Wildcard
[This is the "anything goes" option! Feel free to tag with whatever, or hit me up at
A2
So with a large load of his own slung over his shoulder, he happens to see something fairly small with pink hair(?) carrying a few things.
...Aaah, isn't that one of those Fraggle things? He remember Kotori was friends with them and had seen them around, but never really met with them. No better time than the present.]

Wembley Fraggle | Fraggle Rock | Winnie the Pooh
A. Help the Scientists: Bzzzzt
[Wembley sits on the street outside a laboratory, holding one of the lightning-catching spheres, partially opened. There's more piled up by his side, and a couple a few feet away, right near the building. At first, he'd been unsure of how he was going to capture lightning with these balls when there wasn't a storm, just a whole lot of fog. But once he'd discovered that getting too close to the lab would activate a shock from the barrier, he'd found his solution.
Which is why Wembley is rolling the sphere like a bowling ball toward the lab. When the barrier shocks it, that electricity is sucked into the sphere. Now if he just could figure out how he was going to get close enough to gather them up without getting shocked himself.]
B. Trick-or-Treat!
[This is Wembley's first Halloween, and it's kind of freaking him out, if only because he just doesn't know what's going on! So, others out and about might notice him hiding under a bench as he watched the trick-or-treating goings-on with a mix of confusion, fear, and awed curiosity. In fact, if you pass by closely enough, he might try to get your attention with a simple question-] What are they all doing?
C. Safe Zone
[Dinner has been served in the dining area. At 18 inches tall, Wembley finds it easier to sit directly on the table than in a chair. Tea and roast vegetables are great, but he's not keen on even trying the meat being served.
So Wembley can be found walking around the dining table with his dining plate, doing his best not to step into anyone's meal. He's asking here and there if anyone wants to trade their vegetables for the untouched turkey on his dish.]
D. Wildcard
[Have something else you'd like to do? Go for it! You can also get in touch with me at

Serah Farron | FFXIII trilogy | SigrĂșn
[So needing to blend in was fun, and getting ingredients for... whatever weird things was happening for Jekyll and Frankenstein could be even more fun! Maybe. Possibly.
Well, regardless, she's out in the forest gathering, keeping an eye out for anything that may try to attack, though she's sure there's nothing that will attack!
...right??]
Bad Blots
[Sure, being a fetch quester for the town NPCs is great (not really), but actually helping more than just one person? Even better! Serah's taking to beating up some bad blots in her valkyrie form (that looks suspiciously like her sister's form, but with wings,) flying around and using her mogsword to smite her enemies. If anyone needs an assist, she'll be there to block attacks or to heal.]
Are you all right?
[Look, helping is what she does best.]
Wildcard
--If you want to make your own prompt, Serah will be helping everyone as much as she can, and she'll be just about everywhere. Or if you wanna plot somethin', you can hit me up at
no subject
[...well, this is like a big science experiment, right? Right. At least she's blending in for the time being (though it was weird to have her clothes change all of a sudden!)
So she'll be fiddling with things outside of the scientists home until--]
Hey, can you hook this up over there, please?
[Because once that happens... there's some lightning striking nearby. It's time to collect this!]
Blot Attack
[The blots attacking the people are no bueno. So, using her diving powers here, she'll be shielding both the NPC townspeople and anyone else needing help-- though it looks like she can't really keep a barrier up and attack at the same time (thusfar) and she's got something charging at her!]
Nngh-- a-a little help, please?!
[Because if she can't shield everyone, how can she protect them? Not protecting anyone is not something she'll suffer doing— no one is getting hurt while she's protecting them, or she'll die trying.]
Wildcard
If you want to make something up, do something else, whatever your heart desires! Hit me up at
Blot Attack
She jumps in to help the other woman protect the townspeople, but notably, is doing her best to use the sword to push back against the blots without any actual slicing action.]
Is there a safe place we can get everyone to?
