Chapter 06: Act I

FRANKENHYDE: ACT I—

§ instructions.

Frankenhyde Act I is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.

A few reminders. The city's setting is steampunk themed, so while for the most part it follows ye old Victorian England style, you have a lot of Industrial accents and odd machines about, including small airships. There is a river, so ports and docks are available but although this place may seem large, it's actually a finite space. Sailing down the river will be an endless loop back to the start with fog being the only visible "boundary." Passing through this fog will them back to where they were. There are also numerous research labs and other buildings, but many of them are locked or sealed behind an invisible barrier so no one can enter. The "locals" are all blots, so they are more like living puppets that will have minimum response to anyone who tries to interact with them. Most are neutral, but will attack if provoked. There are also some that are immediately hostile, and are differentiated by the sparks of electricity they generate around their bodies. The "safe zone" for this campaign will be a designated apartment building. Everyone can either bunk together or choose their own room.

Finally, just to be clear, characters who are assigned roles will know beforehand and can either communicate with their partner beforehand or just wait until they're in the scene. To get to their scene, characters must enter a specially marked door in the apartment building to be transported into their scene. They will automatically return upon completion (or if something goes horribly horribly wrong). Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.

Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.

§ sub quests.

Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level.

¶ I. Help the Scientists. A lot of work needs to be done to help the research experiments be a success, some of it a bit more unsavory than the rest.

  1. Gather Ingredients. There are a lot of things that go into creating life, so cue the fetch quest. Items range from organs from wildlife to various plants and herbs to tools such as thread, needles, and large bolts. These items can be found throughout the town and outside of the forest and can be left at either of the buildings that is set for Frankenstein's and Jekyll's laboratories. Do note that no one except those who are cast for the scenes can go inside (there is an impenetrable barrier that will shock anyone who tries to enter).

  2. Bzzzzt. The scientists also need to generate a lot of electricity. Outside each laboratory are various generators used to harness and conduct electricity: lightning rods that can be attached anywhere, strange boxes that need to be powered, and even an odd looking metal ball that can be opened to physically capture lightning. Just be careful to not get shocked!

¶ II. Help the Locals. Like most damaged stories, the local townspeople are not real but Blots taking the form of the original residents. Most are friendly and continue about their lives without paying much attention to the Aspect and providing basic assistance or keeping out of their way. They do not speak but seem to understand if communicated to.

  1. Science Fair. There is a local science fair being held that anyone can participate in! Rewards...aren't that great, but it's the experience that matters. But as expected, things don't go smoothly as various experiments and projects go awry. With the technology as it is, this can be even more dangerous as more than one is dealing with explosive fuel or have way out-of-the-box inventions such as flying motorized bikes or small automaton of some kind.

  2. Dangerous Blots. There are some blots who are badly damaged by Erasers and are more prone to attack. Those that have small electric sparks around them will have jerky movements and must be subdued or destroyed. There are also real Erasers lurking about, taking the form of unidentifiable homunculus and small chimera.

¶ III. Trick-or-Treat! It seems everyone came in time for Halloween. Although not quite as festive as current day, the children still participate in some lighthearted trick-or-treating. The Aspects are free to participate either in wearing costumes, doling out candy, or playing tricks, but they will want to keep an eye out. Some of these costumes appear too good, and some unfortunate accidents and incidents will reveal odd mutant experiments have escaped and mingled with the crowds. Most are not hostile and just cause accidents and disturbances, so they can be gathered and returned to the various research labs. Others may prove a bit more "bite-y" so more force may be necessary to subdue them.

¶ IV. Wildcard. Make up your own prompt!

[He's starting to head to the ice box when he hears the options.]

Wait. Is there a way to serve it not on the side?

[76, do enlighten him about this bacon flapjack.]
steadypulse: (Do you know how long this took?)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-27 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Inside the flapjack. Either whole slices or cut up in to bites.

[He'd discovered it when he simply hadn't felt like using another pan, been too much trouble at the time-]

Bacon with maple syrup is a good combo.
rokubro: (‡ 044)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-28 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. That sounds a little crazy, but I wanna try it. I'll cut up the bacon for it.
steadypulse: (I made my mistakes)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-29 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Grab it and I'll cook it up for you to cut.

[Be easier to cook it in whole slices at east. Cutting it made little difference cooked or raw, far as he went about it at least.]

Unless you want to cut it up. Doesn't make much difference to me.
rokubro: source: tales of berseria manga (‡ 169)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-29 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
I can cut it no problem.

[He'll take the slab of meat over to the nearby counter and grabs the knife.]

Even before I came here cutting things was my specialty. Just tell me how you want it and I'll have it done in a flash.
steadypulse: (A whole fucking year)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-29 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Bite sized pieces, thin enough to cook quickly.

[His head tippd a little, picking back up the bowl of batter he had as he stirred it just to make sure it hadn't been sitting too long.]

I'll cook it a bit before hand just so there's no raw pork in the flapjacks, and the batter itself cooking will keep it from getting burned as they go.
rokubro: (‡ 006)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-29 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds good enough to me. Hold on a sec.

[And after tossing the knife playfully into the air, the next sound 76 will hear is loud, furious chopping as Rokurou proves that he was not exaggerating when he said he'd be able to cut up the meat in a flash. In half a minute he produces a fair amount of thin, bite-sized pieces that despite the speed look almost perfect for cooking.]

That enough?
steadypulse: (I probably should be finished)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-29 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Well then.

Turned on the eye of the stove after pulling a second skillet out, flapjack batter bowl set to the side as he just let out some gruff but amused grunt.]

For now yeah.

[Took part of it to cook up first, working with a time in his head as the first bit of batter was poured in to the first pan. Time to when part of the chopped bacon was cooked he could spread it in to the half cooked flapjack, coat with a little more batter and flip it.

Then one bacon flapjack was slid out on to a plate and slid in front of Rokurou as the rest of the bacon was being put on to a plate just to hold it.]

Try it to see if you want more.
rokubro: (‡ 170)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-29 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
[While maintaining a respectful distance, Rokurou watches with a bit of a curious eye. As a daemon he doesn't really feel hunger, but that doesn't mean he doesn't find things appetizing or have cravings. So once the pancake is finished and plated, he happily takes it.]

Thanks for the food!

[And he's going to cut off a piece to take one bite and...]

Oh man, how did I go for so long without having one of these!? It's just bacon baked into the pancake so it's not much different if you ate them together, but somehow it tastes better?
steadypulse: (I made my mistakes)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-29 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
Should try it with syrup. Want a full stack?

[Even if the number of a 'full stack' isn't really said.

Honestly, he'd probably just make as many as it took to use up all of the bacon. Seemed about right, and be enough to split easily. Wasn't like he made these often.]
rokubro: (‡ 126)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-29 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
Only if you don't mind. I feel like I'm taking advantage here since you I'm sure you didn't plan on suddenly serving for another person.

[And speaking of not minding, don't mind him as he does take some of that maple syrup to try.

It's so good why is this so good??]
steadypulse: (Picking up that shit)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-29 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
[A shrug, already starting on the process of making more of those bacon flapjacks as he spoke.]

Better to use up the batter than not.

[Far used to making enough to feed two super soldiers and a third person, hard to break the habit when it was something he hadn't done in a long time. Also he tended to bring some wrapped up by the room he knew Ana was occupying here.

Someone had to make sure she ate if she was up waiting for him.]
rokubro: (‡ 244)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-29 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
Then no point in refusing a good offer—I'll take a stack.

Need me to cut up anymore of the meat? Or anything else I can do to help?

[At least he's trying to be helpful and not a complete mooch.]
steadypulse: (Going to be seeing that soon)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-29 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
You're fine, just hand the syrup over here.

[Really, it showed just how easily he could whip up a 'full stack' of those flapjacks since soon enough there was a plate set down topped with a few extra pieces of bacon on top. Covered in that syrup with some butter as well.

Would use the rest of the bacon to make himself a stack as well once he' done that.]
rokubro: (‡ 006)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-29 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks again~

[There's just a bit of a happy hum as Rokurou takes the plate to sit back at the table. He contemplates striking up a conversation, but he gets the sense that 76 is more on the quiet side. That and he has pancakes. Time to stuff his face.]
steadypulse: (How can this happen to me)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-29 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
[He grunted in reply, but it was better than nothing right.

Had his own plate done after a while, given the same syrup, bacon, and butter treatment. Turned off the stove, making sure the eye was completely off before he stepped away. Made quick work of the cleanup before he picked up his own plate along with a fork.

Along with the bag he'd had just by his feet. Sat down on the otherside of the table, pouring some clear liquid in to the empty mug from a jar he'd pulled out of said bag.]
rokubro: (‡ 237)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-29 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Rokurou would have been content to eat in peaceful silence with only the sounds of two men enjoying a very late/early meal when he happens to notice 76 pouring a certain liquid into his mug.

From a jar.

...

Yeah no one stores water or juice from a jar like that, so Rokurou just grins.]

Really hitting it back, huh?
Edited 2020-11-29 09:13 (UTC)
steadypulse: (Seriously don't give me that)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-29 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
[The lid of the jar was being screwed back on, setting it down within reach.]

Had enough coffee.

[So having a mug of it along with the bacon flapjacks honestly would go well together. Wasn't enough to do more than relax him a little so he could perhaps get some sleep once he went back to the room.

It helped.]
rokubro: (‡ 120)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-29 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
So what is it exactly?
steadypulse: (Old as fuck and down to fuck)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-29 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Whisky".

[Technically that was right, since he'd used corn and, well... Whisky tended to come from a mix that used grains.

Took a slow sip from that mug of his before he was digging that fork in to his own stack of flapjacks, the lower half of his mask disconnected from the rest of it so he could eat and drink.

Showed off a full beard and mustache, but it was groomed at least.]
rokubro: (‡ 020)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-30 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Nice choice. I don't drink it all that often, but I've had a few good ones in the past.

[And then the mask just. Disconnects. Okay that answers that question but that's still cool and weird to watch.]

...Doesn't that get annoying sometimes?
steadypulse: (I made my mistakes)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-30 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Reliable and easy to find.

[Also make, apparently, considering it was his ow brew. Did eye Rokurou a moment before gesturing towards the jar in some silent permission for him to try if he so wanted. 76 had more.

Left him with what looked like a very odd pair of visor like 'glasses' that still kept most of his face hidden from eyebrows to something of his nose. Beard did the rest, even if more comfortable with the rest of his mask.]

Used to it.
rokubro: (‡ 013)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-30 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
[He wasn't going to ask, but since it was offered...no reason for him to refuse. So he'll just reach over and pour a little for himself.]

Oh man that's strong.

[But good. Eizen would definitely like this if he hasn't tried already.]

But is there a reason why you wear it?
steadypulse: (That'd be nice)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2020-11-30 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
[A low hum-]

Made to be.

[Damn well didn't buy it, and it did the job he wanted it to when he wanted to have a drink. Whisky was always his choice, funny how some fucking around as a kid led him to having a bit of know how.

Why not experiment here? What he could buy here wouldn't do a thing for him anyway, no doubt.]

Thought it was scary. [A little shrug, and despite that gruff voice of his it almost sounded like a joke.]
rokubro: (‡ 021)

[personal profile] rokubro 2020-11-30 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
It's good, though.

[Just a grin as he takes another sip while peering a little closer to get a better look before he shrugs.]

But it doesn't really look that scary. Course I come from a world filled with monsters and daemons, so to me your mask just looks cool.
