Chapter 06: Act I
FRANKENHYDE: ACT I—
§ instructions.
Frankenhyde Act I is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.
A few reminders. The city's setting is steampunk themed, so while for the most part it follows ye old Victorian England style, you have a lot of Industrial accents and odd machines about, including small airships. There is a river, so ports and docks are available but although this place may seem large, it's actually a finite space. Sailing down the river will be an endless loop back to the start with fog being the only visible "boundary." Passing through this fog will them back to where they were. There are also numerous research labs and other buildings, but many of them are locked or sealed behind an invisible barrier so no one can enter. The "locals" are all blots, so they are more like living puppets that will have minimum response to anyone who tries to interact with them. Most are neutral, but will attack if provoked. There are also some that are immediately hostile, and are differentiated by the sparks of electricity they generate around their bodies. The "safe zone" for this campaign will be a designated apartment building. Everyone can either bunk together or choose their own room.
Finally, just to be clear, characters who are assigned roles will know beforehand and can either communicate with their partner beforehand or just wait until they're in the scene. To get to their scene, characters must enter a specially marked door in the apartment building to be transported into their scene. They will automatically return upon completion (or if something goes horribly horribly wrong). Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.
Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.
§ sub quests.
Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level.
¶ I. Help the Scientists. A lot of work needs to be done to help the research experiments be a success, some of it a bit more unsavory than the rest.
¶ II. Help the Locals. Like most damaged stories, the local townspeople are not real but Blots taking the form of the original residents. Most are friendly and continue about their lives without paying much attention to the Aspect and providing basic assistance or keeping out of their way. They do not speak but seem to understand if communicated to.
¶ III. Trick-or-Treat! It seems everyone came in time for Halloween. Although not quite as festive as current day, the children still participate in some lighthearted trick-or-treating. The Aspects are free to participate either in wearing costumes, doling out candy, or playing tricks, but they will want to keep an eye out. Some of these costumes appear too good, and some unfortunate accidents and incidents will reveal odd mutant experiments have escaped and mingled with the crowds. Most are not hostile and just cause accidents and disturbances, so they can be gathered and returned to the various research labs. Others may prove a bit more "bite-y" so more force may be necessary to subdue them.
¶ IV. Wildcard. Make up your own prompt!

- Gather Ingredients. There are a lot of things that go into creating life, so cue the fetch quest. Items range from organs from wildlife to various plants and herbs to tools such as thread, needles, and large bolts. These items can be found throughout the town and outside of the forest and can be left at either of the buildings that is set for Frankenstein's and Jekyll's laboratories. Do note that no one except those who are cast for the scenes can go inside (there is an impenetrable barrier that will shock anyone who tries to enter).
- Bzzzzt. The scientists also need to generate a lot of electricity. Outside each laboratory are various generators used to harness and conduct electricity: lightning rods that can be attached anywhere, strange boxes that need to be powered, and even an odd looking metal ball that can be opened to physically capture lightning. Just be careful to not get shocked!

- Science Fair. There is a local science fair being held that anyone can participate in! Rewards...aren't that great, but it's the experience that matters. But as expected, things don't go smoothly as various experiments and projects go awry. With the technology as it is, this can be even more dangerous as more than one is dealing with explosive fuel or have way out-of-the-box inventions such as flying motorized bikes or small automaton of some kind.
- Dangerous Blots. There are some blots who are badly damaged by Erasers and are more prone to attack. Those that have small electric sparks around them will have jerky movements and must be subdued or destroyed. There are also real Erasers lurking about, taking the form of unidentifiable homunculus and small chimera.

¶ IV. Wildcard. Make up your own prompt!
seto kaiba | santa claus
Kaiba has to earn his keep by inventing things. With each build, he can hopefully work his way up the ladder to buying enough to build something truly awe-inspiring...so where is he starting? His very small start is a mini-model of his universe's solar system, each planet rotating around a gear carefully timed to mimic their approximate relative orbits.
It's all going fairly well, at least, until the model starts to vibrate and spin away. Look out, fellow inventors! It might be headed for impact with your work, even as he desperately lunges across the table to grab it.
"Get back here!"
trick or treat
Later, he takes a break from the frustrating work of digging for parts to ruthlessly dispose of all the candy he's accumulated. He's invented a little candy pistol, actually, and he's made a game of shooting chocolate balls into baskets. Most of the crowd seems to think this is fun!
Except the lumbering husk of darkness and electricity. Kaiba cranks up the force on his pistol, a burst of steam shooting out the back, and shoots a jawbreaker right between its eyes. Which...sadly, does not break jaws. As there are no jaws to break. But it does stagger a bit.
"Back off unless you want cavities...real ones!"
letters to santa
Of course, a familiar season approaches, and with that, certain aspects of his essence are growing stronger. He's fortunately resisted the urge to eat nothing but milk and cookies, but he still has a duty to perform.
Outside Kaiba's apartment room, a simple note is posted above a mailbox decorated with red and white gears.
I don't think I'll be able to return to the North Pole any time soon, so if for some reason you want a gift for Christmas...drop a note here. And if you haven't been naughty, you just might get it. And if you have been naughty? I'll know. Be warned.
Wishing us all a relatively safe and painless holiday, as futile as that sounds right now, Santa
Kaiba hammers the note above the mailbox and stares at it for a good few moments before nodding his approval and turning to head back inside.
((ooc: for that last one feel free to catch him outside and ask questions, or just drop a letter!))
airship part I: for eugene
It's a very nice vessel. He whistles lowly as he gazes up, admiring the view.
"Hm. Gorgeous. I wonder how fast it goes..."
no subject
And also check if it's safe and won't just drop out of the sky.
Thus he happens to be standing right where Kaiba is passing when he overhears the younger man comments. Realizing it's an actual person and not the (somewhat creepy) Blot people, he grins and joins in.
"Right? I've been on plenty of naval ships, but this the first I've ever heard or seen one fly through the air."
no subject
Kaiba is content to inspect every gear he can see, leaning close.
"I was lucky enough to be allowed a tour. Still working on scrounging up the funds for a ticket, though I didn't hear where we could possibly go."
no subject
Pity Varian isn't around, he not only would have enjoyed all this but also understood it. Which is all the more reason why he should get to know this guy so whenever either Varian comes around or he and Rapunzel return home, he can show off and brag. Uh, share. Share the knowledge.
"But if you want a ride on it," Eugene continues, "I don't think funds are a problem. Or rather, all I did was ask if I could go on a ride and the attendant nodded their head and let me roam around no questions asked." He pauses for a moment. "At least they haven't said anything so far. Rather quiet bunch."
And yes, he would have properly paid and not steal or slip onto the airship like a thief. Even if the though did cross his mind once. Just once.
no subject
He idly brushed the railing.
"So you're one of our crew? I don't think we've met. Kaiba, Santa Claus," he said with a small chuckle. That sounded a little like a ho-ho-ho. Sigh.
no subject
There's an easy-going grin before he looks at Kaiba a little questioningly, but interested. "So what's a Santa Claus?"
no subject
He has to stop to think about that for a moment.
"Keep your head clear and eyes open. Surprises tend to jump out at you around here. Know your abilities. For example...Santa is said to be the spirit of giving. He builds toys and gives them to children who've behaved themselves every Christmas...so I can build or summon a toy when I have his magic bag. I've throw a few for self defense."
He pulls one from his coat: a yo-yo, and idly spins it.

Science Fair
However, when it comes to inventing stuff? That was something she couldn't pass up! Her creation was something between a mix of a crane that allowed someone to throw small objects at toward others. That and it was a great way to be lazy and get food without moving from your chair!
However, when she saw something directed right toward her creation? "Oh no, you don't! I worked way too hard on this!" She said before attempting to grab said flying model! Will Kaiba make it in time?
no subject
He sighed and trudged over to the pieces, only briefly looking at her. "...are you all right?"
no subject
“Yeah, I’m fine! How about you, are you okay?” Especially with how his model broke and all.
no subject
Kaiba idly picks up the pieces, pulls out his tools, and...hm. There's a strange quickness to his work. He'll be able to fix right then and there.
"I might want to win, but I don't cheat. Your project deserves the spotlight."
And he's definitely angling to get a closer look, even as he works.
no subject
She said with a giggle. As much as she wanted to win the fair, it wouldn't seem nice to just leave Kaiba by himself. He did help her save her project, after all!
"And in return, I think I shall help you out too! Anything to aid the guard!"
"
no subject
"I don't think we've met before. My name's Kaiba, I play Santa Claus."
no subject
"No way! Those that means your special power is super speed?! How else can you deliver so many presents in one night?" Then she gave a small hum. "No wait, I bet it's your ability to blend into the background! Or even eat lots of cookies too!"

"I would listen to him, shadow," Atem stepped forward, hackles raised. It seemed the blot would not listen though, running forward toward them. Atem roared and charged, tackling the blot down and digging his claws into the creature.
no subject
"On the left!"
This time, he fired...bubble gum at the blot. Exceptionally sticky. He just had to hope it didn't land in his boyfriend's fur.
no subject
The creature exploded into ink and parchment, but Atem was already on the move to the others. He just narrowly avoided getting splattered with gum and he tilted his head at Kaiba.
"Must you use food as a weapon?"
no subject
But he obligingly switches to the marshmallow shooter, tweaking it to hit a fair bit harder.
When that doesn't work as well as he hopes, he resorts to swinging the barrel of the gun. It's a long one, luckily, and he just barely fends off what would've been a nasty blow.
no subject
He backed up swiftly from an electrical claw, but he was back to digging his claws into another blot just as he saw Seto from the corner of his eye use the gun itself as a weapon.
Better than shooting firm marshmallows. Once he bodily tossed the ruined blot away with his jaw, he raced to the one attacking Seto, teeth sinking in to its side and he firmly yanked it away.
no subject
Right. Baseball bat. He's done that one before. With another reach into the bag he manages a few good smacks.
"Better?"
no subject
It wasn't long before the group of blots were done for. Well, for now, anyway. He knew if more would show up. Some had been destroyed while others subdued. Atem changed back to his human form and grimaced at his ink splattered clothes.
"Ugh, what a mess."

Letters to Santa
I hope we can all have a good holiday, too. I don't think any of us were quite expecting to be pulled into a story for it, or at least not one like whatever this one is, but...
[He hesitated, then shrugged a little.]
I dunno. I think it'd at least be nice.
no subject
[ He greeted Gobo with a little smile. ]
Well, the mailbox is here as long as we are. Take your time with it...and I'll see what I can do. Presents-wise, at least. You want a feast, ask someone else.
no subject
That's really nice of you, I hope you get plenty of letters. [A bit of a shrug.] I don't think I'm gonna ask for anything though. At least, not for myself.
