Chapter 06: Act I
FRANKENHYDE: ACT I—
§ instructions.
Frankenhyde Act I is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.
A few reminders. The city's setting is steampunk themed, so while for the most part it follows ye old Victorian England style, you have a lot of Industrial accents and odd machines about, including small airships. There is a river, so ports and docks are available but although this place may seem large, it's actually a finite space. Sailing down the river will be an endless loop back to the start with fog being the only visible "boundary." Passing through this fog will them back to where they were. There are also numerous research labs and other buildings, but many of them are locked or sealed behind an invisible barrier so no one can enter. The "locals" are all blots, so they are more like living puppets that will have minimum response to anyone who tries to interact with them. Most are neutral, but will attack if provoked. There are also some that are immediately hostile, and are differentiated by the sparks of electricity they generate around their bodies. The "safe zone" for this campaign will be a designated apartment building. Everyone can either bunk together or choose their own room.
Finally, just to be clear, characters who are assigned roles will know beforehand and can either communicate with their partner beforehand or just wait until they're in the scene. To get to their scene, characters must enter a specially marked door in the apartment building to be transported into their scene. They will automatically return upon completion (or if something goes horribly horribly wrong). Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.

§ sub quests.
Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level.
¶ I. Help the Scientists. A lot of work needs to be done to help the research experiments be a success, some of it a bit more unsavory than the rest.
¶ II. Help the Locals. Like most damaged stories, the local townspeople are not real but Blots taking the form of the original residents. Most are friendly and continue about their lives without paying much attention to the Aspect and providing basic assistance or keeping out of their way. They do not speak but seem to understand if communicated to.
¶ III. Trick-or-Treat! It seems everyone came in time for Halloween. Although not quite as festive as current day, the children still participate in some lighthearted trick-or-treating. The Aspects are free to participate either in wearing costumes, doling out candy, or playing tricks, but they will want to keep an eye out. Some of these costumes appear too good, and some unfortunate accidents and incidents will reveal odd mutant experiments have escaped and mingled with the crowds. Most are not hostile and just cause accidents and disturbances, so they can be gathered and returned to the various research labs. Others may prove a bit more "bite-y" so more force may be necessary to subdue them.

A lot of work needs to be done to help the research experiments be a success, some of it a bit more unsavory than the rest.- Gather Ingredients.There are a lot of things that go into creating life, so cue the fetch quest. Items range from organs from wildlife to various plants and herbs to tools such as thread, needles, and large bolts. These items can be found throughout the town and outside of the forest and can be left at either of the buildings that is set for Frankenstein's and Jekyll's laboratories. Do note that no one except those who are cast for the scenes can go inside (there is an impenetrable barrier that will shock anyone who tries to enter).
- Bzzzzt. The scientists also need to generate a lot of electricity. Outside each laboratory are various generators used to harness and conduct electricity: lightning rods that can be attached anywhere, strange boxes that need to be powered, and even an odd looking metal ball that can be opened to physically capture lightning. Just be careful to not get shocked!

Rewards...aren't that great, but it's the experience that matters. But as expected, things don't go smoothly as various experiments and projects go awry. With the technology as it is, this can be even more dangerous as more than one is dealing with explosive fuel or have way out-of-the-box inventions such as flying motorized bikes or small automaton of some kind.
- Dangerous Blots. There are some blots who are badly damaged by Erasers and are more prone to attack. Those that have small electric sparks around them will have jerky movements and must be subdued or destroyed. There are also real Erasers lurking about, taking the form of unidentifiable homunculus and small chimera.

II - Help the Locals
Ren summons his bow and quiver and fires several arrows at the creature. Although he hasn't practiced fighting with arrows yet, there wasn't any time. Then again, sometimes in order to learn, it's sink or swim.
Plus it's a good distraction from having gotten himself possessed by his own shadow.
He's in his own outfit, even though it kind of clashes with the bow and arrows.
"Are you okay?"

It went down easily and he sighed, releasing the shadows by opening his hand again and letting them go back to normally on the ground. He looked around, he only saw the one initially but aside from the blot that he pushed away, he hadn't seen anything else yet. "Did you see any on the way?"

He shakes his head. "No, I didn't see anything."
It's then he notices the new changes. Although he would have gotten a little flustered over seeing Minato in a suit (despite not being able to see any colors), the wings distract him. As well as the lack of fox ears and tail.
"Wings? And your fox ears and tail is gone."

Despite the black and white nature of the area, Minato still looked to dust himself off and straighten his vest and tie. He actually really liked the suit a lot. Once done, he looked over to Ren and gave him a nod. "Nice suit."

A real shame. Ren felt his face heat up and he's glad the world is in black and white so any blushing can be hidden. "T-Thanks. Yours is pretty nice too, even if I can't see the colors."
His attention turns towards the wings. Black feather wings, huh? It reminds him of...
And at that moment, the memory of Arsene pops into his head, and he feels a wave of sadness from missing his personas, especially Arsene, or rather Satanael.
Not to mention there's the whole his shadow possessing him a moment ago.

He was a little amused though, that the fox form was so well liked by others. Oh well, he supposed. But then, as he was about to tell Ren that he was pretty sure his shirt was blue, he saw his friend's face fall.
"Something wrong?"

He tenses up at that. Is he really that easy to read?
"Oh I uh... the wings you have remind me of Arsene. He had black wings like that. I guess I really miss my personas more than I thought."

He reached out to gently press a finger to Ren's chest.
"And you're them."

"Ah right. I am thou, and thou art I."
Since it's been brought up, he might as well tell him. "Speaking of that, I did a scene a moment ago, but during that whole time, my shadow had taken over my body and possessed me. Doing the role of Hyde instead."

But his smile dropped at that mention of the shadow. He looked confused. "Possessed? Like... what Yu said about the TV World?"

He nods. "I didn't even realize at first what was going on, but as soon as the scene ended, I got control of my body back."
It bothers him a lot. Not only because of the idea of losing control of his body like that is scary, but it makes him wonder if the Metaverse or the TV World or the Dark Hour were to become a thing again, would he be able to be Joker again?
Or would he have to face himself to get his personas back?
"I guess in a way it kinda makes sense. Hyde was Jekyll's darker side, the bad parts of him. Perhaps Hyde could be considered Jekyll's shadow."

They had Ryoji's eyes.
"But that was part of the story. It doesn't seem like what Yu's team encountered in the TV World or your Metaverse."
But he supposed Hyde being Jekyll's shadow made sense. But did that mean anyone playing Hyde had to be evil for awhile? That... sounded awful. And unfair.

He can't imagine what that would have been like. The closest thing would be the Forget status effect and that only made them forget how to use personas or what they even are.
"Would have been nice to at least get a warning that would happen."

Especially since none of his friends from back home is here to back up him if he was forced to face himself.
"How long do these stories usually last? I'd hate to think more of us would have to deal with being Hyde."
He doesn't know what happened to Yosuke yet.

Minato couldn’t give a definitive answer.
“There might be others depending on often Hyde will show up. Best we can do is warn ahead if we can.”

Warning would be best. "We should let everyone else know about that."
If Minato pays attention, he may notice that Ren is wearing a different pair of glasses instead of the pair he usually does. Akechi has his glasses after he and Ren's shadow were scheming with each other.

He was getting hungry.
“Are the glasses for this place? Pretty sure no one here is going to question your angry resting face.”

He makes a nervous laugh at that. "Do I look angry all the time or something?"
Maybe he should try to fix that somehow. "But no, while I was possessed by my shadow, my scene partner took my glasses and he still has them. Not only did he get along with my shadow but even derailed things from how it's supposed to happen. I just hope that it doesn't cause bad things to happen in the long term. I'm lucky I have this pair and another one."

Not something he thought Ren had to hide though.
“The stories are never exactly 1:1 reenactments. It should be fine,” He said, intending to continue when he heard a growl. Minato frowned and looked at his stomach. Was that him? But then, he heard what sounded like electrical zaps and sounds. He quickly turned to shove Ren away hard, the infected blot slamming right into his side shortly after.

Ren heard the growl too and at first assumed that was one of their stomachs but then he hears the zaps too. But before he could do anything, he gets shoved aside and he sees the blot attack Minato.
"Minato!"
Unfortunately because Ren is still too new, he can't summon swords yet. So he summons back his bow and quiver and shoots an arrow at the blob.
"Hey ugly! How about you pick on someone your own size?"
Sorry Minato. He didn't mean to jab at his shortness, but it was just to get the blob away from Minato.

Minato shuddered from the shocks from the electricity, muscles jerky as he gasped. But soon, the blot was distracted by Ren’s taunt (rude) and jumped off Minato to get at the thief. His muscles still didn’t want to cooperate well but he tried anyway, raising his hand to lift the shadows around the blot and try to restrain it for better target practice for Ren.

The shadows grabbing the blot does help and Ren fires more arrows at it. Hopefully weakening it enough to take it down. If only he had any knives with him, he could just slice it up.
But for now, he'll just have to weaken it with arrows and hope it goes down.

Minato finally managed to get some semblance of control back in his limbs, pulling the sword from the sheath and standing up. His feet felt like pins and needles, ugh. After a few moments of simply breathing, Minato steadied his arm and slashed at the thing’s back. It roared in pain but Minato did it again and again until it finally exploded in parchment and ink.
Minato panted heavily. That sucked. A lot. “I need to sit down.”
And then his butt hit the ground. Ow.

As soon as the monster was dead, Ren makes the bow and quiver disappear and rushes over to Minato. He can't hide his concern as he moves to sit down with him.
"Easy. I'll help you up as soon as you're ready to stand back up."
He watches him carefully. He can't help but be in leader mode right now.
