Chapter 07: Act I
SUGAR PLUM BEAST: ACT I—
§ instructions.
The Sugar Plum Beast Act I is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.
Quick reminder that everyone is dressed to fit the rustic village style! Costumes for each role is linked in the scene they first appear but carry over into other scenes. And for those who are cast as Beast roles, will undergo full transformation, though the degree of transformation is up to the players. They can go into full hulking beast or be something more benign and cute with just ears and a tail or something. The Beast form also can be whatever you want, there is no set "design." In terms of affected personality, in general those in the role will be a little angrier and grumpy than usual, but it's not a complete personality switch. So it's possible to have the character mostly unaffected but snap or get annoyed more easily than usual or over the most random things they normally wouldn't. However there are cases when they may fly off the handle and while we leave it up to the players on if and when that can happen during a scene, anything more extreme that is specifically required will be noted for that scene.
Finally, just to be clear, characters who are in Main Scenes are not immediately dropped into their location and will have to go through designated flowered arches and then return. Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.
Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.
§ sub quests.
Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level.
¶ I. Toy Repair. Scattered around the roads and around the boundaries of the town are damaged sometimes broken toys. They vary in size and shape, but for some reason their expressions are one of fear and pain. Take the toys back to Drosselmeyer's workshop and try to repair them. Even a fresh coat of paint will make the toys seem happier and relieved. Who knows maybe this good act will be returned later…
¶ II. Toysitters. Some of the toys brought into the workshop are on the young, baby side, and boy are they needy. Constantly crying "Mama! Papa! Poopy!" one would easily think they're just malfunctioning. Though that's strange, does this kind of setting have the technology for these toys to have voice recordings...? Regardless, better pair up with someone and try to soothe these baby dolls before the locals come in wondering what kind of witchcraft is going on in there.
¶ III. Garden Birthday Party. There is a birthday party being thrown and everyone is invited to either help decorate or just chill and enjoy the food. However, the garden it's held in needs some pruning. You know those plastic joke flowers that squirt water at people? They're blooming all over the place and are dousing anyone who gets near them. Either weed them out or figure out a way to lessen their water output! And of course there are Eraser and hostile toy blot problems that need to be taken care of. The further out towards the boundaries of the town, the more dangerous it is.
¶ IV. Easter Egg Hunt. Similar to a scavenger hunt, toy eggs have been scattered all over town and all the children are having fun trying to find as many eggs as they can. Perhaps the Aspects want to join in either hiding or finding eggs. However, some of these eggs are actually not toys but rotten, or if they are toys, terrible pranks like a pie to the face or a small firecracker exploding happen once opened. Some of the children are upset, even hurt, so it's imperative to find the culprit! Witnesses say they saw a strange, yellow polka dotted Velveteen rabbit hopping around the areas where the prank eggs are found.

SCENE #1A: MOUSE KING AND PRINCE - MAKOTO YUKI AND NINO LAHIFFE
no subject
While in the original story, the prince wasn't horrible and the fairy that cursed him was evil, it would be more satisfying story-wise if the prince had to learn to be a better person like in the Disney (or Destiny in the Persona universe). Plus they are supposed to be rivals.
At least he can channel his little brother a bit. After all, Chris' akuma form Christmaster had an army of toys.
Once his scene partner has arrived, he gives him a nod before getting into character. Trying to give off a snobbish jerk vibe.
"Ready to get beaten, rat?"
He'll get started as soon as they get the signal to begin.

Unfortunately there's a problem.
"Looks like we'll need to find the scroll or whatever the spell is in before we can do the scene."
Certainly annoying but it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. A fetch quest is better than trying to chase after a shadow after all.

SCENE #1C: SUGAR PLUM FAIRY AND BEAST - WEISS SCHNEE AND RYOTARO DOJIMA
no subject
Okay, Dojima knew he'd become the beast upon entering the door, but he thought-- hoped-- it would just be a 'poof! Transformed!' situation.
Thaaaat was not what awaited him upon entry.
Sure, he was wearing a princely outfit, again (at least no tights?) but he was suddenly overcome with an intense, searing pain throughout his body-- chest, legs, hands, spine, head--
And fell to his knees and hands, groaning in pain. His nerves were on fire, spreading up and down his entire form like liquid flame, forcing him to squeeze his eyes shut as he felt, parts growing...
He could barely hear the tearing of his own clothing above the blood pumping in his ears, his now clawed feet ripping through the front of the boots, the seams of his pants and shirt straining under the changes under going his body.
"S-son of a, B-BITCH--!!"
Dojima slammed his hand-- paw? onto the ground, once, twice, trying to vent the pain from somewhere, growling with sharpened canines bared, his now furry ears twitched back.
So that's what the 'Fairy' would come across when she entered, a tattered beast of a man, panting to catch his breath on the ground from a far-too-painful transformation.
"God... damn it..."

SCENE #3: BEAST AND DROSSELMEYER - SOLDIER 76 AND REAPER
no subject
Arms were folded, ears laid back, and tail lashing about behind him as 76 stood and waited. Even if his gaze wasn't moving, as if watching something just out of sight waiting just as he was, claws digging a little n to his own sleeves. Some bit of work to be done before all of this could be gotten over with-
"Don't like the scent coming from there," growled just under his breath.
Maybe a side of hurry the fuck up carried in the tone as well.

Acting a scene, huh? They chose the wrong role for him to play. He doesn't know how to act like a caring, worried father. He'd just have to improvise.

(frozen comment) ---- INDIVIDUAL TOP LEVELS SEPARATOR ----
Ryotaro Dojima | King Arthur
"Ssshh... shh, it's okay..."
That was an... unusually soft tone of voice for one Ryotaro Dojima. If you went looking for him, you'd find him pacing back and forth with a baby doll in his arms, gently patting it's back to soothe it-- as well as to encourage burping, it seemed.
"I've got you, we'll give you a change once you go burpy, okay?"
For such a stoic guy, he actually seemed pretty... competent? Dealing with the baby dolls. Though once he noticed you noticing him he'd freeze, a flush coming to his cheeks... though it didn't stop him patting the baby doll on the back.
"...How much of that did you see?"
Garden Birthday Party
With a SWISH, Excalibur cleaved several of the offending flowers from the bush, a sigh leaving Dojima as he pulled back.
"This reminds me of something out of Wonderland."
Seriously, prank flowers?
"It'd probably be better to find the source of the water and cut it off there... unless it's like an underground resevoir?"

Jean Kirstein | The Beast
The moment Jean enters the gate into the next story, he's automatically transformed into his beast form. He's now two meters tall (not that big of a difference from his normal) and hairy all over his body and face. His hands and feet are now paws with claws and his regular wolf tail, lion ears and horns remain. In addition he also now has wild boar tusks on his face.
Jean groans, understanding quite well what this must mean since he can't turn back to normal no matter what he tries. This was... his essence's story wasn't it. At least partially.
He looks grumpy and doesn't seem like he really wants to talk to anyone. Which may be the case. He hates being in the Beast form and now it was looking like he'd be in it for a while.
II
Even if he looks like a beast it seems the toys don't mind. They're crying for entirely different reasons and clinging onto his clothes and fur.
"Alright, alright, I got you." He takes one of the ones that is crying the most onto his hairy arms and the toy seems to calm down quite a bit at that. "Hey, can you see what this other one wants?" The one clinging onto his leg that is.
III
Well, this is one way to take out your frustrations. Jean is using his claws to destroy the plastic flowers and rogue toy blobs. It's useful and helps him vent a bit without causing too much chaos. Perfect.
no subject
Now that's something Makoto can get behind, despite the rather... rosy way this place looked. Soon, he had a bag full of sugar and snickerdoodle cookies. He was quite happily (in a muted way) munched on one of the cookies when he noticed the actual Beast of Index sulking out of the way of the village. Honestly, he felt for the guy but he did host nice parties. He made his way over and held up the bag in his hand.
"Here."

Ren Amamiya | Loki
While toys weren't his forte, Ren has maxed stats so repairing them shouldn't be a problem. He managed to find some on the ground and take them back to the workshop.
So far he managed to repair a couple wooden toys and currently he's repainting one of them. He's not as good as Yusuke when it comes to art, but he's pretty good at it. Though at least there isn't much he needs to paint.
Care to try to distract him?
Garden Birthday Party
Although he can't summon his bow anymore, that didn't mean he was defenseless. Having his old Rebel Knife out, he works to slice and dice either those annoying plastic flowers, or fight some corrupted toy blobs.
Though strangely the flowers are giving him more trouble as one sprays in his face, temporarily blinding him despite his glasses shielding his eyes.
"Damn flowers."
A little help?

Garden Birthday Party
So she grabs the closest thing she could find (an ax to be precise; don’t ask, she did gave Dmitri a lit dynamite back on the train) and begins to hack away on some of the flowers from attacking Ren.
“Hey, stop attacking the guy already,” she scolds the flowers before she turns her attention to him and checks on him if he’s okay, “What happened to you today? Maybe I help you out with this mess.”

Zidane Tribal | Aladdin
Broken toys wee nothing new to Zidane. After all, his life wasn't exactly one of luxury and one made due with what they could get. Still, that would be the occasional toy not a street lined with them... and something about their demeanor being so sad.
Yeah, he wasn't going to leave a single one.
Gathering what he could, he would be found going in and out of Drosselmeyer's workshop, steadily getting toys back together. And with the help of his essence, he can do a little better job of sprucing them up. All he needed were the materials.
"Hey, do we have anymore cotton or wool?"
He'll ask whomever was nearest to him in the workshop, not even looking up from painting as already an new outfit was in mind for the doll before him.
II. Toysitting
Though he's used to being a big brother, caring for a baby was... not something he was particularly well-versed in. Okay, maybe the troupe had one or two dropped off at their hideout before, but Baku did most of the care.
Was it a good or bad thing they liked his tail? Maybe that had something to do with the Beast.
"Hey! Can you feed that one while I change this one?" 'That one' in particular was now attempting to eat his tail so scratch the previous thought. Or did it need a pacifier? He doesn't know.
III. Easter Egg Hunt
Slightly older kids wanting to do an egg hunt? Yes.
Helping hide eggs for aforementioned kids? Sure!
Finding a few rotten ones while hiding eggs? Not good.
Realizing after a child gets a pie to the face suddenly from a fake egg? Even worse because now Zidane had to settle the kid down and make sure they weren't hurt.
"You'll be okay, buddy. We'll just clean your face up here..."

Crane (Tsuru no Ongaeshi) | Master Crane
Among the abilities that Crane received from his Essence, he hadn't expected toy repairing to be one of them. Though it was probably less toy repair, and more just some of the domestic skills his Essence provided him. But he had to admit, they were coming in handy this time.
His skills were especially useful for cloth toys, such as dolls and stuffed animals, which he was able to sew and patch up. But even some of the other toys had clothes that were ripped, and so they were easily repaired as well.
Placing down another doll, he fixed the dress that he'd just mended for it before placing it aside. And, he wasn't sure why, but he then gave the doll a gentle pat on the head.
"I'm ready for another one," he said to the nearest person that had a toy waiting for repair.
B. Garden Birthday Party
Crane stood a bit back from the plastic flowers, watching as they squirted someone who got too close. Then he frowned curiously, trying to study the plants.
"...where is the water even coming from?"
Maybe if they could figure that part out, they could get them to stop squirting.
C. Easter Egg Hunt
After hearing about some of the eggs playing pranks and upsetting or hurting children, Crane takes to the skies to try to get a bird's eye view of the culprit. He heard a bit about the yellow polka dotted rabbit, so he keeps an eye out for that.
While he was looking, though, he was able to see the path the rabbit was taking, and the trail of eggs it was leaving behind. He flies down lower over the nearest Aspect.
"There are a few prank eggs along this way," he called.

Toy Repair
He's coming back inside just as Crane calls out, and he grins, nodding.
"Just in time. Look what I found." He says, holding what looks to be a dragon marionette doll. It's clearly seen better days, all tangled strings and chipped paint.

Pinocchio | Lena Sabrewing
It might have to do with her Essence, but Lena found herself feeling sorry for the broken toys. She was able to gather a bunch of them, and took them all back to the Drosselmeyer's workshop.
Fixing them was a different matter, though she found that she had an easier time with toys that were made of wood. Her ability to manipulate wood let her fix up any cracks or breaks, or fashion a new limb if one was too damaged to fix. Once she was finished, she added a bit of paint to any toys that needed a touch up.
It didn't really feel like much, but she managed a small smile anyway.
B. Toysitters
In all honesty, Lena wasn't too surprised by the sentient toys. Her own control over toys meant that she saw them moving around all the time.
Babysitting them, though...that was not something she was really looking forward to.
She was able to calm down a few dolls, but others were starting to get fussy. And honestly, she wasn't entirely sure what she was doing. Picking up a few dolls, she tried rocking them to sleep, while a few others tugged at her clothes to get her attention.
"...a little help here?"
C. Easter Egg Hunt
It wasn't that difficult to find eggs, though Lena did come across a few of the rotten ones. With a grimace, she tossed the rotten eggs away.
"I thought this was supposed to be fun," she quipped, wiping her hands on her shirt. "I'm gonna be smelling that for hours."
D. Wildcard
((Feel like doing something else? Feel free!))
B
With a sigh, Jean approached Lena and took a few of the baby dolls away from her feet. They clung to his clothes instead, then, still crying quite a bit for attention.

Kazuma Kiryu | Big Bad Wolf(Red Riding Hood)
"Upsy-daisy."
Kiryu had come to investigate because of all the noise, unable to simply ignore it for a few reasons. What he hadn't expected was to have a bunch of baby dolls surround him after a moment when he had walked in, a few still clinging to his furry tail and appeared to be sleeping in that fur as he had seated himself in a small chair.
While some slept, there was another giggling as he raised it up in his hands in a slow sort of playful motion as he spoke, "You're alright." The crying was softening with every swing or raise, his own tone unusually soft for a man of his- well, books being judged by covers and all that.
With how many still clung to his tail and pantlegs? Could use a hand with how pinned he was in having to keep seated.
"... Why do any of you need a bottle?" Let alone diaper changes.
Uninvited Garden Guests
Ink splattered against the trunk of a tree, broken toy parts falling to the ground at the roots as Kiryu bounced back on his paws, tail lashing behind him and ears perked. There were a few similar splatters and cracked parts around him already, as if he'd been at this for a while. Could already see another few swarming from the edge of the forest.
"Come on then. You'll have to settle for this party instead."
Hadn't come out here looking for a fight, but he wasn't just going to leave these things to ruin the fun of those unsuspecting.
[Wildcard! Bring your own starter; Kiryu is definitely easy to spot and will be prowling around both the town, along with in and around the forest]

Makoto Yuki | Persona 3 | Thanatos
Painting solid colors on the faded toys was easy enough, most seemed to have color blocking of some sort. Makoto at least didn’t feel woefully out of his league simply sitting on the floor, a few jars of paint before him, and painting whatever toy came across his lap. A finished black cat with button eyes sat on his head for a moment before sliding down his back and scurrying off.
It wasn’t until dolls with cotton bursting from broken seams that Makoto had to pause and even look pensive. He looked around for anyone else in the area.
"Er... I don’t know how to sew, can you help them?" He asked. Bebe tried so hard to teach him but he simply didn’t have a knack for creative things like arts and crafts. "I can trade you?"
Garden Party
His sword swished in the air as he cleaved through Eraser and hostile toy blot alike. His wings flapped in order to help him back away or shadows rose from the ground near shaded trees or even his own shadow to help restrain the hostile toys. He wasn’t fond of the plants that squirted water so he went after the more hostile entities.
Any destroyed toys were in a pile, to be taken back and repaired, while he let the too far gone ones explode into parchment and paper.
Sometime later, Makoto returned with a bag full of broken toys and his hand holding his cheek to stop the blood from a rather nasty cut. He had a few bruises too. But he wanted to get the toys to the repair shop first. He looked annoyed, rather than upset.
General
Cleaned up and bandaged, Makoto sat at a table with a few snacks, mostly cookies, and he was crowded by a rather eclectic crew of dolls and toys. A new sewn dog plush sat on his head while more of other animals took turn climbing his wings and sliding down them. He held them spread and tilted as best he could, although the muscle was beginning to ache. Maybe he could lay down for a nap instead...
His head laid down on folded arms, the dog plush tumbling off with a squeak.
General
He grabs a cookie to eat it without much thinking. Thankfully it doesn't cause any problems, even if it likely doesn't do anything for him. He could get some cucumbers later.
Then he noticed a couple samurai dolls suddenly walk up to him.
"What's up--?"
Suddenly the samurai dolls bow to Nino. Before Nino can question it, he feels himself bowing back, which cause all the water from his head to spill out.
He feels a wave of dizziness and then falls onto the table with a loud smack, causing it to shake. The samurai dolls point tiny katanas at Nino, who doesn't have the strength to get up, as well as starting to have a fever.
If that whole thing doesn't wake Makoto up, surely the dog plush bouncing up and down with squeaks in distress should do it.

[As he usually does with every new campaign, Rokurou first sets out to do a bit of scouting. After exploring a the quaint little village a bit, he then heads out toward the outer edges, knowing the usual pattern that the real fun is lurking out there, especially out within those forests. How deep can he actually explore is always a fun question he has no mind figuring out the answer to.
1.) At the moment the number of rogue Erasers and hostile beasts like the standard fare overly aggressive wolves are few in number, so it's not too difficult to dispatch them. So anyone else wandering through may hear the
joyoussound of someone fighting around the forest.2.) But while
huntingscouting around, Rokurou finds something else interesting along the trails or hidden around trees. At first he had ignored the first sighting thinking it was just some kid's lost toy, but after finding two or more, he can't help but stop and look more carefully.]...Toys?
[Picking one up, he looks at it curiously.]
And all with similar creepy faces. Is someone dumping all their broken toys out here?
[...Kind of. Weird. He could just leave them, but wait—wasn't one of the places in the village a toy repair place and something about this story involving toys? ...Maybe it's not so much of a coincidence? After pondering for a moment, he starts picking up the toys near him and then backtracks to the ones he had found before.
3.) Upon returning with an armful of toys, he sets to the toy repair shop.]
Hey, got some toys here! Not sure if I'd be any good in helping, but I could go out and get materials or something if needed. Otherwise...I could try to paint some?
[Not that he's really picked up a paintbrush or pencil for art in years but can't be that hard, right????]
» ii. egg hunt ➔ rabbit hunting «
[1.) When not going off to try and fight or kill things, Rokurou has some with the easter egg hunt game. Sometimes he'll be off hiding some eggs, other times he might help hoist a child up to grab that nicely hidden egg in a tree (that he may or may not have placed himself). Or maybe he's got a partner in crime to try and hide eggs...or someone to compete against to find as many as possible. Whatever it is, he's having fun.
2.) But after he has the misfortune of picking up one of those dastardly bad eggs? Now it's personal.]
A rabbit, huh...sounds like a perfect job for the Huntsman.
[Yeah that's not a very friendly grin, especially with that glint in his eye. Time to track down a Velveteen Rabbit and maybe cut it down a size or two. Or three. Depends on how well blade goes through plush—]

[Anything else is fair game! Toysitting is definitely one I'd be interested in because Rokurou trying to take care of toys sounds hilarious to me.]

Of course I'd find you here.

Archer (EMIYA) | Cu Chulainn
Immediately after he enters a building the room he's greeted by a chorus of cries. It's ear piercing and he definitely doesn't feel comfortable. Especially at not what is implied he should do in this space. Shirou might have been a good babysitter (or... at least more willing one) but Archer? Yeah no.
There's already a baby doll clinging onto his trouser leg. He had every intention of leaving the room, but first he'll just pick the doll up and return it to a pen of other baby toys. "Just stay there and play with others."
Papa! Papaaaaa!
"No, I'm not anyone's papa, stop it."
Easter hunt
Somehow, he got roped into hiding easter eggs. It was fine, hiding them was fine, as long as he didn't need to do anything silly and stupid.
Except then one of the eggs explodes as he's hiding it and spreads glitter all over his already weird triple-colored hair.
"You've gotta be kidding me."
Wildcard
Hit me with anything.
Easter Eggs
D-did you have one of the prank eggs...?! Are you the one hiding them?
[He sure doesn't look like a velveteen rabbit...]

Yusaku Fujiki | Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS | Smaug
[It seemed there was a new arrival who entered the scene without much fanfare. Not that Yusaku minded, he honestly didn't have the best idea of what he was getting into. But he was already on a journey of self-discovery, so having been drafted in to help save all worlds wasn't exactly something he could easily say no too. After all he had been through, this sort of thing didn't phase him much outside of it being a little out of his realm of expertise now that he got here (no computers?!) and that his body changed to suit the essence he received.
Apparently, he was a dragon from a children's novel in the 1930s. It wasn't one he had read, but he had heard about it. His hands and feet had turn to scales and claws, a good portion of his body was also scaled although not completely. Very big leathery wings extended from his shoulder blades, although he had them wrap around his body and hooked by the nail at his chest
Gargoyle style. His tail was flopped and curled around his bottom, all of this a very deep red that was in sharp contrast to his bright pink and blue hair. Speaking of which, his brilliant green eyes managed to stay but the pupils turned to slits. Some more deep red scales dotted his face around his eyes and cheekbones, trailing down his neck to disappear beneath his shirt.Despite all this, Yusaku was tinkering with any mechanical toy he could find. Electronic or no, he knew how to handle these kinds of things. Sewing wasn't as easy but living alone meant he had to learn to stitch his own clothes sometimes and painting was painting. Despite the claws and scales, Yusaku handled the toys with care.]
Set the broken ones on to my right, I'll get to them soon.
[He had heard someone enter and figured they were there to deliver more toys. Or they could join him, he didn't care.]
Garden Birthday Party
[So far, Yusaku couldn't figure this out. He was somewhat drenched himself, but it didn't phase him too much as he had grabbed a few of the flowers and yanked them from the ground. It tore them from their hose and left them immobile. But that didn't mean the other flowers couldn't squirt water either. He looked at the torn ones for now, claws digging around them.]
Hm... an underground well, perhaps? Ground water could be plentiful enough, especially if the stems run deep enough.
[Or was it magical in nature? Such a conundrum and something made harder without his computers to hack into the water system! Not that it likely wouldn't have benefitted him here given this place was rustic and pre-industrial. The computers would have nothing to look into.]
Wildcard
[He's new so I'm down for something else if you want.]
Toy repair
[Skull Kid has an armful of toy soldiers, all with splintered legs or missing their toy rifles. There's plenty of places for him to get into mischief here, but he seems legitimately concerned about the broken toys.]
