Chapter 07: Act I
SUGAR PLUM BEAST: ACT I—
§ instructions.
The Sugar Plum Beast Act I is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.
Quick reminder that everyone is dressed to fit the rustic village style! Costumes for each role is linked in the scene they first appear but carry over into other scenes. And for those who are cast as Beast roles, will undergo full transformation, though the degree of transformation is up to the players. They can go into full hulking beast or be something more benign and cute with just ears and a tail or something. The Beast form also can be whatever you want, there is no set "design." In terms of affected personality, in general those in the role will be a little angrier and grumpy than usual, but it's not a complete personality switch. So it's possible to have the character mostly unaffected but snap or get annoyed more easily than usual or over the most random things they normally wouldn't. However there are cases when they may fly off the handle and while we leave it up to the players on if and when that can happen during a scene, anything more extreme that is specifically required will be noted for that scene.
Finally, just to be clear, characters who are in Main Scenes are not immediately dropped into their location and will have to go through designated flowered arches and then return. Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.

§ sub quests.
Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level.
¶ I. Toy Repair. Scattered around the roads and around the boundaries of the town are damaged sometimes broken toys. They vary in size and shape, but for some reason their expressions are one of fear and pain. Take the toys back to Drosselmeyer's workshop and try to repair them. Even a fresh coat of paint will make the toys seem happier and relieved. Who knows maybe this good act will be returned later…
¶ II. Toysitters. Some of the toys brought into the workshop are on the young, baby side, and boy are they needy. Constantly crying "Mama! Papa! Poopy!" one would easily think they're just malfunctioning. Though that's strange, does this kind of setting have the technology for these toys to have voice recordings...? Regardless, better pair up with someone and try to soothe these baby dolls before the locals come in wondering what kind of witchcraft is going on in there.
¶ III. Garden Birthday Party. There is a birthday party being thrown and everyone is invited to either help decorate or just chill and enjoy the food. However, the garden it's held in needs some pruning. You know those plastic joke flowers that squirt water at people? They're blooming all over the place and are dousing anyone who gets near them. Either weed them out or figure out a way to lessen their water output! And of course there are Eraser and hostile toy blot problems that need to be taken care of. The further out towards the boundaries of the town, the more dangerous it is.
¶ IV. Easter Egg Hunt. Similar to a scavenger hunt, toy eggs have been scattered all over town and all the children are having fun trying to find as many eggs as they can. Perhaps the Aspects want to join in either hiding or finding eggs. However, some of these eggs are actually not toys but rotten, or if they are toys, terrible pranks like a pie to the face or a small firecracker exploding happen once opened. Some of the children are upset, even hurt, so it's imperative to find the culprit! Witnesses say they saw a strange, yellow polka dotted Velveteen rabbit hopping around the areas where the prank eggs are found.

[Don't worry, you're stuck with the one that tends to make up some extra beats to a story. Adds a little more flavor, you know?
Anyway, he still think that Beauty and the Beast story in itself was rather droll. This twist seems to have some similar beats, at least.]
I was never one for company. [He moves a feathered hand to dismiss it but looks back at her. Gosh now that he thinks about it, her 'father' must be a mess. But hey, at least it beats his own...] Toys you say? Hmmm then you might be useful after all. Follow me.
[He clanks the rod on the floor twice before turning away.]

[When he says he's not one for company, she tilts her head a little, but then nods and smiles, startled briefly by the cane, but walks over to follow after him. If there's anything, she likes being able to help.]

And wow, is this place just like some weird toy fantasy castle. Bright colors contrast against the castle's walls, a mixture of marble and fancy Victorian toys, patterns of colors splashed everywhere.]
Ahh...this is the dinning room.
[He mostly stops because it looks like a feast was set up for them. He's not all that hungry, truly, but hey, it looks surprisingly fancy.]

[Parties. He mostly used them to meet up-and-coming people, desperate to make himself well-liked by all the elite. This just seems like a shrine of a fallen prince who wanted happiness, but always away from his grasp. What a pity (says the pot, thinking about kettle).
He looks back to the food and touches his beak, wondering if it's even possible for him to chew food properly.]
No, I have not. Have you?
[He'll point to a chair that's empty, if she so desires to eat, and then he'll seat himself, putting the wooden staff on the side.]

[Would it really be okay? She thanks him and will take a seat at the table, smiling at him when he sits down too.]

[Well in that case maybe this is for the best. At least that's his excuse as he bites into one of the presented breads, half-expecting it to be a trap. It was...well perfectly fine. Like, good restaurant quality fine. The type he'd write rave reviews in his food blog, if he still kept one.]

[He looked over at the drinks and picked water. Even if he was a 'Prince' or whatever the Beast was, he did not want to get drunk under any circumstances.]

[Which was possible, right? Between what 'Drosselmeyer' had told her and then coming here... didn't have anything to do with the fact maybe she forgot to eat before coming in the story, no siree...]
[Instead, she focused on him taking a bite - peck? - of bread with a smile.]

[She's glad. It looked like it might be difficult to eat with a beak. Of course, she blinked when he said 'help yourself'.]

[What? It's Akechi. He lived in an apple a day for morning at times. Forgetting about food was something he tended to do if he wasn't invited somewhere.
Also an important detail which he appreciated; the drinks had straws. He assumes because of the beak. It would be stupid to just have a glass if he couldn't really drink form it.]
Of course not. I don't think this would be all just for me.
[And there seemed to be no real servants around except for those that appeared to be moving magically. Must be kinda boring, he figured, at least for the beast.
He began to eat more in earnest, not noticing at first the movement on his back as the tentacles from his essence 'broke' free and began to stretch behind him, before 'looking' at the food with curiosity.]

[And she would begin helping herself to a little, eating slowly, but making sure that he was eating.]
[Were the tentacles weird? A little, but no weirder than her own snake hair getting a few bites in despite their supposed to being in costume.]

He just nods at the thanks. Good enough for him and...oh. He watches with interest the snake hair moving around, finally looking back at his own and realizing they were doing the same too. What a strange scene they must be making...he had to ask to satiate his own curiosity but, to do it in script.]
Do you like reading books? There's a library here, with volumes from various places around the world. I am fond of Greek Myths personally...

[Some bites she goes for, a few she shares with the snakes. Trying to keep a scene normal was so much wooork and having to be patient.]
I like reading! Hm, Greek Myths are fun, but I actually like books on gardening or bugs.
