Chapter 05: Act II

A TWISTED WONDERLAND: ACT II—

§ instructions.

The Second Act is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.

Everyone is still starting from the forest of doors and will have to go through them to their area. Essences are back to normal and bound to their respective Aspect, however those who participate in scenes will have their Essence replaced with one based on the character they're playing (ex, Alice roles will now have Alice Essence at their disposal). This is only limited to the scenes—once they're back out they will have their Essence again. There are various items scattered throughout Wonderland that act as power ups and will grant additional Wonderland character Essence abilities. Example, wearing a top hat will grant bonus Mad Hatter abilities. These power ups are only available for the sub quests.

Finally, just to be clear, characters who are in Main Scenes are not immediately dropped in to their location and will have to pass through the designated door and then return. Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.

Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.

§ sub quests.

Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level.

¶ I. Courtroom Blitz. One of the doors leads to a giant courtroom that looks more like a combat ring complete with large crowds of spectators and a "judge" presiding over the matches. However, instead of it being cutthroat fighting, most of the locals participating are cards and everyone must fight using random silly props to try to score as many points as possible or knock the opponent off from the platform. Of course, nothing here is normal, and the battle platform will shift and move, large pillars sometimes rising up and random glitter bombs dropping down. The judge may even summon a giant (rubber) gavel to try and smash the fighters. Rather than this accomplishing anything important, it seems as if these bouts are to try and help train the cards to fight the good war in Wonderland as well as bolster confidence. Give them all a good show and help teach them a thing or two about (improv) fighting!

¶ II. The Horsey Moves in an L. Another door leads to a giant chess board and everyone takes the place of a chess piece, taking either the red or white side. Here is where most of the twisted clones are, so it is up to the Aspects to try and deal with them by defeating them on the board. The problem is everyone is limited to the moveset of the piece they replaced. Pawns can only move one space a turn, knights are three and over, bishops diagonal, rooks in a straight line. There are no Kings or Queens, but their roles are completely empty so no one has to worry about protecting them. When Aspects meet an opposing piece, they must defeat them to move on. This can either be through fighting or some other method to knock them off the space. At least they have their Essence abilities to use! If Aspects end up meeting each other, they do not have to fight. In fact they can team up to try and take out a nearby blot or clone, or swap roles to continue progressing through the board.

¶ III. Mirror Clones. Not only do the Aspects have to worry about Twisted Wonderland clones, but they also have to worry about their own clones. A mirror will sometimes rise up on the board and a clone of the Aspects will appear. It will try to take the original's place, sometimes even immediately disappearing to appear somewhere else on the board near another Aspect. The only way to destroy it is by destroying the mirror, but act fast before it fools the others. It is possible to become trapped within the mirror, and in that case the clone must be taken care of first.

¶ IV. Beware the Jabberwocky and the Bandersnatch. They occasionally pop out of nowhere. When one appears, all rules are gone and everyone can rush in to deal with them. Vorpal blades and… dog treats will appear on the battlefield which Aspects can use to hack at the monsters. The Bandersnatch will be surprisingly interested in the treats, but the Jabberwocky doesn't seem to be hungry for anything but Aspect flesh. As if things weren't dangerous enough, the clones might snatch blades to wield against the monsters, the Aspects, just about anyone within snickersnacking range.

¶ V. Wildcard. Make up your own prompt!

daggersedge: (f: ahhhh shit)

Yeesh. That's a little disturbing.
twilightskey: (I think I understand)

[personal profile] twilightskey 2020-09-11 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It was pretty weird.

[Wonderland was weird, okay?]

It was probably one of the weirder worlds I went to. It feels so long ago, since I was going to different worlds on different missions...
daggersedge: (f: yes and?)

[personal profile] daggersedge 2020-09-12 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
[ Felix leans back on his hands, making himself more comfortable as he watches Roxas' expression. He guesses he can relate to the kid. Traveling to different planets to fight the enemy was a big part of his life for a while. Left him at a bit of a loss once it was over. At least until Siris picked up him and Locus. ]

You mind telling me a little about your missions?
twilightskey: (There's a place I'd like to be)

[personal profile] twilightskey 2020-09-13 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
My missions?

[He blinks at Felix, tilting his head a bit.]

I could... I mean. Most of them involved recon of a new world or hunting down a certain number of Heartless. Sometimes I would have to hunt down a big Heartless if it was causing trouble.
daggersedge: (f: the most jailable offenses)

[personal profile] daggersedge 2020-09-17 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, the heart-eating zombies.

[ Hey, that's how Felix has remembered the heartless. Makes more sense to him than all the talk of darkness and light. ]

How big are we talking here?
twilightskey: (There's a mystery to be solved)

[personal profile] twilightskey 2020-09-18 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Huh?

[Roxas hums as he thinks.]

Well, it depends. Some weren't much bigger than me, but they were still tough. Especially if they were in groups. Some were twice my size, but weren't too bad... then there were the really big ones. Those were... I guess the size of a house? Sometimes bigger? They were a bit of a challenge.
daggersedge: (f: uhhhhh)

[personal profile] daggersedge 2020-09-22 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[ Felix raises his eyebrows and lets out a low whistle. ]

Seriously? Wow… We don't have anything like that back where I'm from. Unless you wanted to fight a whale or something.
twilightskey: (Huh?)

[personal profile] twilightskey 2020-09-22 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I don't remember fighting any whales.

[He pauses to think for a minute.]

...I do remember fighting a Heartless that looked like a dragon, though. And one that took over part of a bridge.
daggersedge: (f: sounds good)

[personal profile] daggersedge 2020-09-22 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[ An amused smile pulls at Felix's lips. ]

A dragon, huh? No wonder you handle this place so well.

[ His tone makes it clear that it's a compliment. ]
twilightskey: (Memories of the City)

[personal profile] twilightskey 2020-09-22 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Well, at least it looked like a dragon. Or a bird. It had a big treasure chest on it.

[Heartless were weird, okay?]

I guess so. I've always been fighting monsters, so moving from Heartless to Erasers isn't a big shift for me. I'm actually surprised with all the rest time, really. Back when I was with the Organization, I only remember having one day off.
daggersedge: (f: dude not cool)

[personal profile] daggersedge 2020-09-24 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ Felix is no stranger to long deployments, but even that dulls in comparison. His eyebrows shoot up in surprise. ]

Are you serious? One day?
twilightskey: (Fond memories)

[personal profile] twilightskey 2020-09-27 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I didn't even know what a day off was. I was so used to doing missions and gathering hearts that I actually didn't know what to do with myself on that day. I just sort of spent it wandering around, mostly.

But, it is where I met some really good friends for the first time. So I guess it wasn't a whole waste/
daggersedge: (f: off guard)

[personal profile] daggersedge 2020-09-29 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
[ Felix listens in silence, and he doesn't immediately speak when Roxas is done. He knows that Roxas is an unusual kid from a much different place, but man. It's hard to wrap his head around someone living a life where they don't understand the concept of a day off.

After a short pause, Felix speaks again — quieter this time. ]

You've lived an interesting life, Roxas.
twilightskey: (Memories of the City)

[personal profile] twilightskey 2020-09-29 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
You could say that.

[He offers Felix a small grin, before turning to look out at the forest again. He lets out a small sigh.]

I'd say you could talk to Axel about it some more, since he was in the Organization longer than I was and knows things I don't. But he and Isa... well. They went back home.
daggersedge: (f: considering for two seconds)

[personal profile] daggersedge 2020-10-01 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
[ "Axel" isn't a name that Felix recognizes. (Although unbeknownst to him, he'd know the man on sight.) But it's easy enough to tell that Roxas isn't thrilled with the departure of his … what? Coworkers? Friends?

Might as well ask. ]

Are they friends of yours?
twilightskey: (Is any of this for real? Or not?)

[personal profile] twilightskey 2020-10-06 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Axel's one of my best friends. He was here for a while; tall with red hair?

[Maybe Felix knows him.]

But he went home recently.

daggersedge: +locus (f: what you fucking said)

[personal profile] daggersedge 2020-10-09 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ "Tall with red hair" brings Lea to mind, but Felix dismisses that possibility at once. For one, it's the wrong name. Besides, Felix couldn't stand Lea, and he likes Roxas well enough. ]

That must be tough.

[ What would he do if one of his partners showed up only to go home again? Probably hunt them down and drag them back, if he could. He shouldn't be stuck doing this bullshit alone. ]
