Chapter 05: Act II

A TWISTED WONDERLAND: ACT II—

§ instructions.

The Second Act is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.

Everyone is still starting from the forest of doors and will have to go through them to their area. Essences are back to normal and bound to their respective Aspect, however those who participate in scenes will have their Essence replaced with one based on the character they're playing (ex, Alice roles will now have Alice Essence at their disposal). This is only limited to the scenes—once they're back out they will have their Essence again. There are various items scattered throughout Wonderland that act as power ups and will grant additional Wonderland character Essence abilities. Example, wearing a top hat will grant bonus Mad Hatter abilities. These power ups are only available for the sub quests.

Finally, just to be clear, characters who are in Main Scenes are not immediately dropped in to their location and will have to pass through the designated door and then return. Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.

Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.

§ sub quests.

Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level.

¶ I. Courtroom Blitz. One of the doors leads to a giant courtroom that looks more like a combat ring complete with large crowds of spectators and a "judge" presiding over the matches. However, instead of it being cutthroat fighting, most of the locals participating are cards and everyone must fight using random silly props to try to score as many points as possible or knock the opponent off from the platform. Of course, nothing here is normal, and the battle platform will shift and move, large pillars sometimes rising up and random glitter bombs dropping down. The judge may even summon a giant (rubber) gavel to try and smash the fighters. Rather than this accomplishing anything important, it seems as if these bouts are to try and help train the cards to fight the good war in Wonderland as well as bolster confidence. Give them all a good show and help teach them a thing or two about (improv) fighting!

¶ II. The Horsey Moves in an L. Another door leads to a giant chess board and everyone takes the place of a chess piece, taking either the red or white side. Here is where most of the twisted clones are, so it is up to the Aspects to try and deal with them by defeating them on the board. The problem is everyone is limited to the moveset of the piece they replaced. Pawns can only move one space a turn, knights are three and over, bishops diagonal, rooks in a straight line. There are no Kings or Queens, but their roles are completely empty so no one has to worry about protecting them. When Aspects meet an opposing piece, they must defeat them to move on. This can either be through fighting or some other method to knock them off the space. At least they have their Essence abilities to use! If Aspects end up meeting each other, they do not have to fight. In fact they can team up to try and take out a nearby blot or clone, or swap roles to continue progressing through the board.

¶ III. Mirror Clones. Not only do the Aspects have to worry about Twisted Wonderland clones, but they also have to worry about their own clones. A mirror will sometimes rise up on the board and a clone of the Aspects will appear. It will try to take the original's place, sometimes even immediately disappearing to appear somewhere else on the board near another Aspect. The only way to destroy it is by destroying the mirror, but act fast before it fools the others. It is possible to become trapped within the mirror, and in that case the clone must be taken care of first.

¶ IV. Beware the Jabberwocky and the Bandersnatch. They occasionally pop out of nowhere. When one appears, all rules are gone and everyone can rush in to deal with them. Vorpal blades and… dog treats will appear on the battlefield which Aspects can use to hack at the monsters. The Bandersnatch will be surprisingly interested in the treats, but the Jabberwocky doesn't seem to be hungry for anything but Aspect flesh. As if things weren't dangerous enough, the clones might snatch blades to wield against the monsters, the Aspects, just about anyone within snickersnacking range.

¶ V. Wildcard. Make up your own prompt!

[His tail whipped back and forth as he fought to keep his balance, making his way to where he thought the best strike might be. Bracing himself on one gnarled shoulderblade, he pulled the sword up- cringed, thought of saving his friends -and plunged it down.

The vorpal sword bit true and the Jabberwocky snarled and writhed. He held on as long as he could, until the monster's motions threw him off with a cry, tearing the sword from his hands and leaving it stuck to the hilt in its hide.]

[ Seeing Gobo thrown off, Lena ran as fast as she could and dove to catch him before he hit the ground, tucking into a roll to avoid the Jabberwocky as it writhed in pain. ]

[His 'flight' abruptly ended when Lena caught him, jostling noise from his throat. When everything was rightside up again he looked up, seeing the snarling beast, still with his sword sticking out of its body. Growling a bit himself, he moved to get to his feet- then something in his pocket swung the corner of his vest with its weight, and an idea sparked.]

Lena! Get one of the other swords like mine that're in this area and get ready to attack it. I'll hold it down!

[Without waiting for comment he took off running, pulling something- a little tin? -from his pocket at the same time. He screeched to a halt only once, ducking to avoid one of the monster's swipes, as it was desperate to end this fight now. Using the same moment to pop something into his mouth, he put the tin back and kept running, taking a long circular path to draw the Jabberwocky's attention away.

Considering that as he ran he was growing in size, that did a pretty good job of drawing the monster after him.]

[ She's a bit worried when Gobo runs off, but when he starts growing she figures out what he means. So she runs the other way towards the nearest vorpal sword.

Then, hopping onto her wooden sword, she rides it like a skateboard in the air to fly back towards the Jabberwocky, waiting for the signal from Gobo. ]

[By the time he reaches the Jabberwocky, Gobo has reached several feet in size. The beast focuses on him, just as he's planned, but sees the size as no object, instead lunging toward him for a strike. Gobo caught it and bore back, matching it in size and apparently strength, when he started pushing it further. There was a bit of fighting back and forth before he could finally get an arm around its head and neck, twisting it to the ground. He pushed his feet against the floor, using his shoulder to keep it pinned.]

Now!!

[ Speeding through the air, she then jumps when she's close enough and plunges the vorpal sword into the Jabberwocky, pulling a roaring cry from the monster. ]

[Gobo held the monster tight until the two blades did their work, and he felt it soon stop struggling. He released his grip cautiously, then fully when it didn't move. Then he stepped back quickly, almost throwing the monster away from him, and quickly swept his hands down his arms as if to try and clean something offensive away. The magic of the size-candy wore off soon after and he returned to normal, turning away from the fight, looking up and around for Lena.]

Good job! We work pretty well together.

[ She slid down the monster as it was writhing, landing on the ground when Gobo tossed it aside. Recalling her wooden sword to her, she breathes a sigh and nods. ]

Yeah, we're not bad. [ She glanced at him with a tilt of her head. ] You all right?
gobetween: (Hey! It's missing!)

[personal profile] gobetween 2020-09-16 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Yeah, I'm okay. I'm just not used to... fighting like that.

[He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.]

Sure I've fought other monsters and stuff while here, but not like- that. And we Fraggles don't fight much, period. Our last war was so long ago...

[He petered off, then, catching Lena looking at him, waved a hand.]

I'll be okay.

[ She glanced towards the monster briefly, before turning back to Gobo. ]

...pretty intense, huh?

[personal profile] gobetween 2020-09-17 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
[He breathed out a little sigh, nodding.]

Yeah. Really intense.

[It's at this point he remembers his sword is technically still in the Jabberwocky. He debates on going back for it, thinks better of it, then instead attempts to summon it in front of him as if it were coming for the first time. Thankfully it appears, clean, and he sheathes it in the scabbard at his side.]

I'm going back to the Forest for now. You...?

[personal profile] outofyourshadow 2020-09-17 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
[ She considered that for a moment. ]

I think I'll stick around a bit longer. See if there's anything else to do.

[personal profile] gobetween 2020-09-19 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nodded, scrubbing a hand briefly through his hair.]

Sure. Lemme know if you need any help though, okay?

[And because he thinks she might be able to sense his upset right now-]

I mean that.

[personal profile] outofyourshadow 2020-09-22 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no problem.

[ With a grin, she rests her wooden sword on her shoulder as she starts to head off, giving a wave without looking back. ]

See ya later.

[He at least managed something of a smile as he waved, watching her walk off.]

Later, Lena.

[He let his hand go down, sighing softly. A few moments spent staring, zoning out, in silence, then he shook himself out of it and started off himself, to see what else might need his help.]
