Chapter 05: Act II
A TWISTED WONDERLAND: ACT II—
§ instructions.
The Second Act is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.
Everyone is still starting from the forest of doors and will have to go through them to their area. Essences are back to normal and bound to their respective Aspect, however those who participate in scenes will have their Essence replaced with one based on the character they're playing (ex, Alice roles will now have Alice Essence at their disposal). This is only limited to the scenes—once they're back out they will have their Essence again. There are various items scattered throughout Wonderland that act as power ups and will grant additional Wonderland character Essence abilities. Example, wearing a top hat will grant bonus Mad Hatter abilities. These power ups are only available for the sub quests.
Finally, just to be clear, characters who are in Main Scenes are not immediately dropped in to their location and will have to pass through the designated door and then return. Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.
Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.
§ sub quests.
Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level.
¶ I. Courtroom Blitz. One of the doors leads to a giant courtroom that looks more like a combat ring complete with large crowds of spectators and a "judge" presiding over the matches. However, instead of it being cutthroat fighting, most of the locals participating are cards and everyone must fight using random silly props to try to score as many points as possible or knock the opponent off from the platform. Of course, nothing here is normal, and the battle platform will shift and move, large pillars sometimes rising up and random glitter bombs dropping down. The judge may even summon a giant (rubber) gavel to try and smash the fighters. Rather than this accomplishing anything important, it seems as if these bouts are to try and help train the cards to fight the good war in Wonderland as well as bolster confidence. Give them all a good show and help teach them a thing or two about (improv) fighting!
¶ II. The Horsey Moves in an L. Another door leads to a giant chess board and everyone takes the place of a chess piece, taking either the red or white side. Here is where most of the twisted clones are, so it is up to the Aspects to try and deal with them by defeating them on the board. The problem is everyone is limited to the moveset of the piece they replaced. Pawns can only move one space a turn, knights are three and over, bishops diagonal, rooks in a straight line. There are no Kings or Queens, but their roles are completely empty so no one has to worry about protecting them. When Aspects meet an opposing piece, they must defeat them to move on. This can either be through fighting or some other method to knock them off the space. At least they have their Essence abilities to use! If Aspects end up meeting each other, they do not have to fight. In fact they can team up to try and take out a nearby blot or clone, or swap roles to continue progressing through the board.
¶ III. Mirror Clones. Not only do the Aspects have to worry about Twisted Wonderland clones, but they also have to worry about their own clones. A mirror will sometimes rise up on the board and a clone of the Aspects will appear. It will try to take the original's place, sometimes even immediately disappearing to appear somewhere else on the board near another Aspect. The only way to destroy it is by destroying the mirror, but act fast before it fools the others. It is possible to become trapped within the mirror, and in that case the clone must be taken care of first.
¶ IV. Beware the Jabberwocky and the Bandersnatch. They occasionally pop out of nowhere. When one appears, all rules are gone and everyone can rush in to deal with them. Vorpal blades and… dog treats will appear on the battlefield which Aspects can use to hack at the monsters. The Bandersnatch will be surprisingly interested in the treats, but the Jabberwocky doesn't seem to be hungry for anything but Aspect flesh. As if things weren't dangerous enough, the clones might snatch blades to wield against the monsters, the Aspects, just about anyone within snickersnacking range.

Well excuuuuse me for not meeting your damn expectations.
[ He rolls his eyes, just in case the sarcasm wasn't easy enough to pick up on. ]
I don't remember that Alice gal being a shithead, so I guess we're both equally disappointed.
no subject
[Mordred's heavily considering just derailing the scene and charging him right here but that'd probably screw up the scene and she still kind of cares about that.]
You know what, let's just get the hell out of here, I'll get you for that one later. The sooner I can wear something normal, the better. So just help me get back to the exit before I change my damn mind and decide a stuffed rabbit would look good on my wall.
[...that isn't really helping to defuse the situation, but she's not happy about this at all.]
no subject
[ Not that he believes she could be any danger to him, of course. But the faster he can go back to solving his problems with violence, the better, so he's willing to put up with her a little longer.
Without further ado, he walks past Mordred and begins his search for the place he ─ or the White Rabbit, rather ─ had come from, not bothering to stop and look behind him to check whether "Alice" is following him or not. At least he got that part of the role right. ]
A rabbit hole, was it? Can't be that hard to find.
[ Granted, he has no idea where to look for it, but as far as he knows, neither does the character he's supposed to be playing, so it works out nicely. ]
no subject
[She's definitely following along, looking around for what she thinks should be easy to spot. But that doesn't seem to be the case.]
So is it camouflaged or something?
no subject
[ Now that the initial shock has worn off a little, Ragna finally begins to remember that he's supposed to go along with the story here, and that he's got a role to play. He's not certain just how in-character he's supposed to get, but figures it's better safe than sorry. ]
I, uh, rarely use it...?
[ The unasked question of "Is this how we're supposed to do it?" is there, although there's no way he'd actually say it out loud, of course. Between the dumb costume and pretending he's a character in some silly story, he's had enough embarrassment for today, thank you very much. ]
Anyway, hurry it up, I don't have all day.
no subject
Yeah, neither do I so don't waste my time either.
[Looking, looking, probably more looking and then eventually, hey, there's the rabbit hole and...the White Rabbit?]
Who's that? You got a brother or something?
no subject
Wha─
[ He tenses up, immediately spinning to look in that direction and only relaxing when it turns out it's just some weird lookalike, not his actual brother.
─Wait, that's not much better, is it. ]
... You've gotta be shitting me.
[ While it might not be quite as bad as facing Jin, having to deal with a second White Rabbit was not on Ragna's today's agenda. Hell, if he'd known there was already someone for the role, he'd have happily stayed out of it. ]
Finally! Do you idiots have any idea what time it is right now? I've been waiting for ages! What in the world took you so long?! You're not getting off the hook this time!
[ Now, if this newcomer just wanted to take over and give Ragna a chance to peace out, he'd be down for it, but getting chewed out for his efforts to actually play along? Screw that. ]
'Kay, I've had enough. I'm taking this asshole out and we can end this charade. Sounds good?
no subject
[The last thing she was really expecting was to get chastised by this rabbit doppelganger for being tardy. It's not her fault the damn rabbit hole took forever to find!
And she figures there's a trick here, she's not as dumb as she...okay, sometimes she's pretty dumb, but she figures there's something going on, but being scolded like that almost immediately rubs her the wrong way.]
Don't you even start with me! I'm not the one who made this thing such a pain in the ass to find!
[She's definitely open to starting shit with the impostor over there (at least she thinks it's an impostor!), that's for sure.]
Besides, there's probably only supposed to be one rabbit here, so one of you has to go!
[And she's pretty sure it's this new one since while Ragna's a pain, he showed up in the scene with her and this guy didn't.]
no subject
What's that? You come in late and still talk back?! I'll teach you what it means to─
[ The rabbit takes a step forward, no doubt ready to act on its threat ─ but Ragna beats it to the punch, and quite literally at that. Before the impostor can proceed with whatever this punishment is supposed to be, he sends it flying over the rabbit hole with a well-aimed kick. ]
You heard Alice, asshat. You can exit the stage left.
[ This stage is too small for two White Rabbits, after all. ]
no subject
[She didn't even get a hit in!
But oh wait, the rabbit's back and....]
Hey, is it just me or did he get bigger?
[That can't be good!]
no subject
Tch, 'course it wouldn't be that simple.
[ In fact, it seems to be getting worse, since like Mordred pointed out, the rabbit is not only getting bigger, but also still prattling on about them being late and the need for punishment. Ragna is far beyond the point of caring, though, and he's fairly confident he can handle the damn thing. He has no way of knowing if his partner can do the same, however, so he steps in front of Mordred just in case. She may be annoying, but he doesn't want her to get hurt... and besides, he needs her to finish this stupid task. ]
Stay back. This shouldn't take too long.
no subject
[...or not. But she's going to say that while trying to shove her way back to the front lines.]
no subject
Fine. Screw this common human decency thing, then. He'll let her handle it if she's so into it. ]
Right. Be my guest, then.
[ Like a true gentleman, he steps aside, leaving Mordred to deal with the huge rabbit charging right at them. That's what she wanted, no? ]
no subject
All right, watch and learn!
[Here goes nothing, as she'll try and bring the rabbit's charge to a halt by...opening a rabbit hole under his feet to trip him up! Hopefully that works because she's still figuring this temporary Essence thing out, so there will almost certainly be mishaps.]
