Chapter 05: Act II
A TWISTED WONDERLAND: ACT II—
§ instructions.
The Second Act is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.
Everyone is still starting from the forest of doors and will have to go through them to their area. Essences are back to normal and bound to their respective Aspect, however those who participate in scenes will have their Essence replaced with one based on the character they're playing (ex, Alice roles will now have Alice Essence at their disposal). This is only limited to the scenes—once they're back out they will have their Essence again. There are various items scattered throughout Wonderland that act as power ups and will grant additional Wonderland character Essence abilities. Example, wearing a top hat will grant bonus Mad Hatter abilities. These power ups are only available for the sub quests.
Finally, just to be clear, characters who are in Main Scenes are not immediately dropped in to their location and will have to pass through the designated door and then return. Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.
Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.
§ sub quests.
Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level.
¶ I. Courtroom Blitz. One of the doors leads to a giant courtroom that looks more like a combat ring complete with large crowds of spectators and a "judge" presiding over the matches. However, instead of it being cutthroat fighting, most of the locals participating are cards and everyone must fight using random silly props to try to score as many points as possible or knock the opponent off from the platform. Of course, nothing here is normal, and the battle platform will shift and move, large pillars sometimes rising up and random glitter bombs dropping down. The judge may even summon a giant (rubber) gavel to try and smash the fighters. Rather than this accomplishing anything important, it seems as if these bouts are to try and help train the cards to fight the good war in Wonderland as well as bolster confidence. Give them all a good show and help teach them a thing or two about (improv) fighting!
¶ II. The Horsey Moves in an L. Another door leads to a giant chess board and everyone takes the place of a chess piece, taking either the red or white side. Here is where most of the twisted clones are, so it is up to the Aspects to try and deal with them by defeating them on the board. The problem is everyone is limited to the moveset of the piece they replaced. Pawns can only move one space a turn, knights are three and over, bishops diagonal, rooks in a straight line. There are no Kings or Queens, but their roles are completely empty so no one has to worry about protecting them. When Aspects meet an opposing piece, they must defeat them to move on. This can either be through fighting or some other method to knock them off the space. At least they have their Essence abilities to use! If Aspects end up meeting each other, they do not have to fight. In fact they can team up to try and take out a nearby blot or clone, or swap roles to continue progressing through the board.
¶ III. Mirror Clones. Not only do the Aspects have to worry about Twisted Wonderland clones, but they also have to worry about their own clones. A mirror will sometimes rise up on the board and a clone of the Aspects will appear. It will try to take the original's place, sometimes even immediately disappearing to appear somewhere else on the board near another Aspect. The only way to destroy it is by destroying the mirror, but act fast before it fools the others. It is possible to become trapped within the mirror, and in that case the clone must be taken care of first.
¶ IV. Beware the Jabberwocky and the Bandersnatch. They occasionally pop out of nowhere. When one appears, all rules are gone and everyone can rush in to deal with them. Vorpal blades and… dog treats will appear on the battlefield which Aspects can use to hack at the monsters. The Bandersnatch will be surprisingly interested in the treats, but the Jabberwocky doesn't seem to be hungry for anything but Aspect flesh. As if things weren't dangerous enough, the clones might snatch blades to wield against the monsters, the Aspects, just about anyone within snickersnacking range.

That's fine!
He gripped the pool noodle in his hand and gritted his teeth, crouching into position.
"Ready. We're not losing to that!"
And possibly sealing their fates with that comment, he adjusted his grip downward, and took his first swing. The ball...sort of started to roll. Not nearly enough.
The Mirror Queen looked absolutely delighted in a menacing sort of way.
Sorry it seems I never got this notif either (back is all good now tho)
Ahh, so it was that type of game. Yu seemed to recall a polo (?) tournament in the Alice movie he had watched. He gave the mirror queen a polite bow using both sides of his dress (as his Alice tended to do). As Kaiba - no wait, her majesty worked to hit, he had stuffed one of the pool noodles with one of the coconuts. When his ball hit, it went march farther.
However, of course, the mirror Queen could not stand for such, such...clearly cheating if he was putting his mind to good use and actually gaining an advantage!
"Get them!"
And now cards were rushing towards the both of them. In a deep part of his mind, Yu almost felt like he'd seen such a scenario before.
"Be careful!"
no subject
This Queen would not stand for such disrespect. Ugh, if only he had his bag of toys he could summon scissors and cut them down to size! But there had to be another option...
He bent and scooped up some stray coconuts, lobbing them at their heads as hard as he could, trying to draw their attention away from Yu.
"Go now!" he called, working to clear the path for his Alice. It almost worked...almost. They were stubborn cards, and he narrowly avoided a head-chopping.
no subject
As the coconuts smashed into the cards, sending some, well, tumbling down like a house of cards, Yu took the opportunity to hit his tube-coconut and hit it under the croquet correctly. Of course, now that they were in the lead, the mirror Alice could not take it either and so while cards still tried to attack them, Yu found himself facing off against the other Alice, holding a large pink flamingo that wanted to bite his head off.
Somehow, sparks were flying despite the fact no metal was involved. Yu was too busy trying to not get his head chopped off to think about the absurdity of everything.
no subject
"Stop this foolishness at once, or face my venom!" he tried again, brandishing his own noodle after a croquet hit. And true to the Queen's word, the noodle...turned into a snake in his hand, fangs pointed outward.
...well, time to set a snake loose and see how everyone fared with that, he guessed. The mirrors had taken the opportunity to score some more, but a snake slithering their way...hmm.
The mirrors called more cards forward, neatly surrounding the traitors. "...please tell me you're carrying an axe," the Queen grumbled.
no subject
"No, but I have an idea... Timber !"
As the snake moved around, he jumped and landed on some of the cards, the movement making them fall and tumbling down one after the other.
no subject
"We bite back. Go hold them up!"
He sent the snake at their mirror opponents, grabbing for...a giant carrot? Difficult to swing, but it would have to do. He tossed the carrot to Yu, picking up his skirts to race over toward their moving hoop and the ball nearby.
Alright. He kicked the ball back toward Yu, aware that wasn't orthodox, but nothing about this game was. "We have ground to make up. Let's make this quick."
no subject
"Right. Time for them to take their vegetables."
Wow, okay maybe a little too much? Didn't matter, he was a pro with his own dress (it did help that it didn't involve many royal layers), taking the carrot and swinging it around like he would a sword, slamming into a few more cards before giving the ball a kick of his own. He'd done his soccer courses, so, thankfully it went in the proper direction, but by that time their opponents were getting furious , probably more at the possibility of losing than whatever rules still existed.
"Off with their heads!"
Well, at least they were on pair with the story, so to speak.
no subject
Right. Gum it up. He spotted a few sticky candies embedded in the ground and kicked hard, aiming right in the center of the blades.
One got close and tore into his skirts....but they were thick enough that he could push back before it pierced skin, thankfully.
"How dare you disrespect a queen!"
And he whirled away, cutting away most of the skirt and leaving a raggedy mess around his legs. But that was all the better for kicking the card away, hurrying over to Yu's side to take the next shot. He used a fallen blade as his mallet this time.
"Are we at six yet?"
no subject
"We're getting really close!"
And suddenly,, the mirror Alice was on his tail. Yu managed to move away right before he was whacked with a pink flamingo...well the beak might have hurt. He gave the ball another kick with his feet. It might go on, if nothing stopped it!
"Keep a close watch on it your majesty!"
no subject
And he rushed in, full speed ahead, skidding on the grass and giving the ball one last whack to ensure they made the target.
Was that six? He dusted off his skirts and scowled at the mirrors, drawing up to his full height.
"Now. We're done here. Scram if you want to keep your heads."
no subject
"That's right. If you stay here longer you might have to Die for Me ."
Uh. Hmm. Might have overdone it, so he laughs again, a hand over his mouth.
"I mean, please leave, if you know what's good for you?"
no subject
"That's a promise, not a request. Leave, now!"
And...miraculously, they do. He stops to breathe a sigh of relief, setting the thing down..
"...Not bad," he says to his partner. "We lived."
