Chapter 04: Act I

A MIDSUMMER ROSE: ACT I—

§ instructions.

The first Act of our fourth campaign is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.

Reminder that everyone is coming with a fairy form! Feel free to use and/or refer to the meme for what form your character takes. Characters will remain in these forms throughout the entire act, but will change to fit their role when in a scene. So if someone was originally looking like a centaur, they will revert back to their normal form with whatever extra touches needed.

Finally, just to be clear, characters who are in Main Scenes are not immediately dropped in to their location and will have to step into a designated fairy ring made of iridescent mushrooms and flowers and then return. Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.

Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.

§ sub quests.

Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level. As a reminder, the main setting for everyone not in a scene is within the fairy castle and everyone is in fairy forms.

¶ I. Fairy Pranks. Fairies are known to be mischievous, and the ones at the party are the worst. They will spice up people's foods, drop cake on others' heads, even inflict minor spells and curses on people! From changing skin colors to turning people into frogs or even bugs, these fairies are such a menace. Catch them in the act and stop them, else try and help those who are victims. (Any curses inflicted are temporary and should wear off naturally after an hour.)

¶ II. Stupid Cupids. A specific group of fairies called cupids are making their rounds. Completely drunk, they're firing their arrows willy nilly, and those who are struck will be enthralled with the first person they see. However, it's not always romantic. In fact some might just want some intense friendship, others are seeking some kind of familial connections, and then there are the few who just want to fight everyone.

¶ III. Weeding the Castle. While the main party hall is safe, the outside is definitely not. If they're not careful, some creepy crawlers may try to slip in. Take care of the hostile plants by either destroying them or by trying to restore them to their original forms. However, this can only be done singing or using special fairy dust acquired by one of the pranking fairies flying about in the party. Watch out for the Erasers, too—they are disguised as mandragoras, so if they're pulled out they will first try to deafen with their screams before attacking. Another form they take are snapdragons, but they will actually transform into a dragon-like beast with a lot of poisonous teeth.

¶ IV. Clearing out Spindles. To help the King and Queen, those not busy with scenes can help clear out the spindles littered about the castle. They could be in any room, closet, bathroom, or tower, so perhaps those taking care of the weeds can do this as well. However, be careful. Should anyone prick their finger they will fall into a deep sleep and must be awakened somehow (the method is left up to the players). Some spindles are Erasers in disguise, and but instead of falling asleep, getting pricked (or more accurately, stabbed), will paralyze and cause severe hallucinations. They also use razor sharp threads to attack and try to bind those they are fighting. But they're made of wood, so fire is a good way to get them.

¶ V. Wildcard. Make up your own prompt! Feel free to use the wildcard for general party prompts and castle exploration. Outside of the grand hall where the main festivities are held, the castle is run down and lifeless, overrun with withering, rotten, hostile plants. It's even worse outside.

. . . [Even when he knew the head was going to talk, he was still not ready for it. He needs a moment before responding. His friend's head, is talking in his hands. How even-]

Aahh, yeah, I'll try. Still kind of working it out—it's pretty weird.

[Understatement of the year, right here.

Anyway, he's going to furrow his brows as if trying to concentrate and "feel" out where his body is. He knows it's floundering around...ah there. There will be the sound of a crash as it suddenly trips over some chairs.]

[...Well, now he'll know exactly where to go. He gets back onto his feet, being careful not smush Shizuo's head as he holds onto it. As he makes his way over to the source of the sound, a few faeries have decided to hover around the fallen headless body of Shizuo's. They were using their magic to summon various things and dumping them on top of the body. Flower pots, books, people, food, whatever they could find and laughing up a storm.

Kazuma frowns. He tries to focus the floating flames to scare them off so they could get closer.]

[There will be some electricity mixed in with those flames because Shizuo will be shouting at the faeries while his body struggles to get itself up to swat at them.]

HEY! YOU WANNA BE TURNED INTO FAIRY DUST!?

[There's a hush oooh from the faeries, startled by Shizuo's loud voice and fleeing from the charged flames.]

I'm still holding you. [Please don't electrocute him too. Once the faeries fly off, he can walk over and push some of the chairs aside so Shizuo's body can get back up.]

[It's the occupational hazard of being his friend. There's only an annoyed click of the tongue as he can only wait and be carried (which...is still weird, but he's too pissed to really care too much right now) as his body struggles to stand up. It senses the approach of the head and starts reaching out.]

[He could feel himself tense a little. He can't help it when there's just this body without a head moving it's arms. It's a little unsettling. He shuts out the flight reaction, and slowly offers the head towards the hands.]

Are you...going to be able to put your head back on by yourself?

Should be able to, as long as it doesn't drop me.

[...This is weird to talk about. Does Celty have these kinds of problems...?

Anyway, his hands will be grabbing his head and placing it on.

Backwards.]

...This doesn't feel right.

. . . [He'll quietly help with that, gently turning Shizuo's head so it was facing forward once more. Was it the screws attached to his neck keeping it on? Well he's twisting one anyway.]

[...Ah.]

Was it on backwards? [And then a weird cringe when Kazuma twists one of his bolts.]

Other way, you're turning it wrong.

[Oh. He'll do as told.] Does that hurt?

Not exactly, but it's not that comfortable.

[But all right, that's better. He'll be doing the same on the other side. There won't be an audible click or anything, but it will reach a point where it can't be turned anymore.]

Think that should do it, though. Thanks.

[He nods and then lowers his gaze.] Sorry, for knocking your head off.

No it's—wait, that's right.

[It was just a glimpse BUT HE SAW IT.]

You were the cat??

A nekomata. [There's a difference. And of course he's not going to explain his actions unless asked.]

Nekomata... [He's somewhat familiar, or at the very least he's heard of them before. Still.]

...So...the whole time I was petting you thinking you were some kind of cat fairy thing........

[ALREADY NOT SURE HOW TO FEEL.]

...Sorry. I was careless and got hit by one of cupid's arrow. I wasn't thinking straight.

Cupid's arrow did that? ...Guess it could be worse...

Well, not so much the turning into a cat part... [Wait, what is he saying? He shakes his head.] Let's just say your little head stunt shocked the arrow's effects out to me. So, thank you.

...Not sure if it's worth thanking me for, but glad I could help. [Sort of. HE'S NOT SURE WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THAT but if it gets Kazuma back to normal? He'll take it.]

Sorry for treating you like a cat, though. Was probably weird for you....or guess not if those arrows were messing with your head.

It's fine. [He lets out some air, saying that a little too quickly. Why were they still on this?]

It wasn't bad. Could have been worse. [The flames around him flare up for a moment. He's remembering that kiss again.] Why don't we get you cleaned up? [He gestures to his clothes that were now a mess from the fairy's mischief.]

[Just a slight tilt of his head, completely oblivious before he mentions the clothes. Looking down at him... ...Ugh.]

Yeah, probably for the best. Damn pests. I should teach 'em for messin' with everyone.

By doing what? You don't know what they're capable of. [As if sensing they're being talked about, a few faes can be heard snickering nearby.]

Wouldn't punching 'em be fine? Or just stepping on 'em... Aah, but I might actually kill 'em if I did that.

Unless you're planning to incur the Queen's wrath- [He doesn't get to finish that sentence, as he suddenly jumps forward with a start, cat ears sprouting from his head. A few mischievous pixies decided to sneak up and poke him with a needle, and are now laughing like mad.]

Tch! Why you-! [A few fairies started poking and prodding his cat ears. The flames around him starting to flare up.]
