Chapter 03: Act I
The Little Mermaid: Act I—
§ instructions.
The first Act of our third campaign is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels. There are also toplevels for each Sub Quest this time around, but players are more than welcome to create their own individual toplevel if they have something else in mind they would like to do.
As a reminder, characters will find similar information and instructions within their journals so they won't go in blind. Also to note, all characters will have all their belongings within them as well as the additional supplies provided to them by the Storyteller. As you know, everyone has undergone a special "mermaid" transformation upon arriving into the Book, but do note: characters in Main Scenes will have a second wardrobe change while acting the scene. Their merform will stay the same, but they'll have additional bits to add to their role. Outfits will be provided in the prompts themselves, and these outfits will only be in affect during the scene. The moment they leave the setting area, they return to their other wardrobe.
Finally, just to be clear, characters who are in Main Scenes are not immediately dropped in to their location and will have to travel to the "setting location" and then return. Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.
Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.

[There... He found a large stick. Maybe that would work...]
Let's try this.
[He started heading back up to the window.]
no subject
What is your essence, by the way? If you don't mind me asking.
no subject
Little Red Riding Hood...
[And off swimming again.]
What's yours?
no subject
I-I see. That makes some sense...
[Okay phew, the wave of humor is ALMOST past now.]
As for me... I don't suppose you've ever heard of Sweet Porridge, have you?
no subject
No, I haven't. But, uh... I'm not really all that versed in a lot of fairy tales to begin with.
[That seemed to touch a nerve just a bit, and he looked almost uncomfortable about the topic.]
no subject
I'm sorry... I-if it helps... the Storyteller's selected people from a lot of different worlds, so a lot of these stories for the first time too. Not to mention mine's a small tale so it's not that well known.
no subject
It's fine, really. Don't worry about it. I, uh... just never really had a lot of opportunities to really get into them.
[He shrugged, trying to brush it off.
As they got closer to the windows again, the area around them was getting lighter. Keith paused at the level of the glass and then moved closer to try peering inside. He was hoping it was empty of creatures in there.]

[Keith took a few practice swings at empty water to get a feel for how he was going to have to do this and to make sure he could get enough power behind it to actually break the glass...
...then went for it.]
no subject
Phew okay... I think it should be wide enough for the two of us, once we get the sharp pieces out of the way.
[She'll just... grab another VERY large rock and perhaps too-gingerly try to help knock those spikes out of the window. If Keith pays any attention, it looks like she has to steel herself every time she tries to knock one away, even flinching when it looks like a sharp point might get too close to her skin.]
no subject
[Keith also started knocking away bits and pieces. The idea of Kotori flinching away from the glass wasn't really all that surprising to him. If they got cut in the water, it was a lot harder to prevent the draw of a predator than it might be on land. It was better for them to do their best to stay safe.
Once there was enough space, Keith made his way in first just in case something was in there.]
no subject
Oh thank goodness... [SIGH.] Okay. If I were a pirate captain, where would I put a very big pearl?
no subject
You okay?
[Then, began looking through the room to see if there were anywhere to hide a large pearl...]
no subject
[Ah. That was a bit too loud, wasn't it?]
Ah, yeah... Sorry, I just... get nervous about being cut...
[It explains why the sword earlier made her freeze when she was able to dodge the other attacks alright, if in an amateur fashion.]
no subject
[Nervous? That was one heck of a reaction for being nervous... unless she was just dramatic like Lance...]
Well, that's understandable, I guess.
[He could see the reason in this situation, at least, because blood in the water would draw out predators. And there was the whole dealing with the pain thing. Or the fact that they'd need to stop the bleeding, and not just because of predators...
Okay, so maybe it wasn't as overdramatic a reaction as he originally thought. He also got the impression she wasn't much of a fighter, so freezing up in the face of a large weapon, regardless of what it was, didn't seem all that strange.
He dug around a bit in the room, but most of the loose treasure was smaller than what they needed, or not pearls...]
I'm not having any luck.
no subject
Still, now she was good to help him out.]
Me nei-- Oh!
[On one of the shelves of the bookcase is a little chest about the size of a bread box... and picking up, it feels about the right weight. She swims back to show it to Keith.]
I think this might be it, Keith-san! It looks big enough, and it feels lighter than if it was filled with jewelry!
no subject
Can you open it?
no subject
[Still got that smashing rock, Keith?]
no subject
Breaking it might be our best bet. It's the faster option, at least, then trying to dig around finding a small key. Who knows how many other keys we'd find along with it?
[There could be dozens of locks on this boat between various chests and anything else. It was more time limit friendly to break it. He grabbed the rock and swam back over to her.]
