Characters: Miyamoto Musashi [Issun-boshi] and anyone else!
Campaign: Break
Format: [ these ]
Open
Summary: Intro log for Musashi! Settling in during the break, power testing, and stabbing a snowman in the face.
[ a - settling in ]
[ Hoo boy, was it ever chilly outside. For exactly that reason, Musashi decides one of her first stops in this new world she volunteered to go to is the tavern. A nice drink will warm her up! ... Or really, she just realized what she agreed to and noticed she's missing three of her four swords now, so ... yeah, she probably should start this off with a drink.
Now with a tall bottle of booze and a cup to pour it into, Musashi idly flips through the journal to get a better understanding of what's going on, taking breaks to drink here and there. As well as look around the tavern for anyone else who stands out. After all, talking is easier than just reading about all this stuff, right? Besides, there were just some things this journal wasn't gonna answer for her.
If she manages to lock eyes with someone, she'll be giving them a friendly grin before grabbing her drink and moving over to them. If she doesn't spot anyone while she's in the tavern, she'll be doing the same "looking around for others who stand out" thing after she leaves, while wandering around to get familiar with the city layout. ]
Hey there! Do you have a few minutes to spare for me?
[ b - snowmen ]
No, it's just not the same ...
[ Musashi's quietly grumbling to herself, having just stabbed her katana right through the head of a snowman. ... What? It threw a snowball at her first! It had it coming!
Either way, she pulls her sword out of the poor snowman's head - weird, did it always have a frowny-face expression on it? - and looks it over with an edge of disappointment in her expression before sheathing it again. ]
As for you, stop it with the snowballs, okay? Don't think I'm not serious. I'll have you melted down to nothing if I catch you again.
[ She might be sternly scolding this snowman, but she's quick to follow that with an embarrassed grin. Boy is she going to feel silly if it turns out to be neighborhood kids or something. ]
[ c - power test ]
[ Aside from the single katana, Musashi also came in equipped with a small wooden mallet. Sitting out in the woods despite the cold weather, she idly flips it around in her hand, looking it over with interest. This was because of her Essence, right? Should she read up on the lore behind it, or maybe just mess around and see what happens? Well, messing around would be the easiest way to understand, and that's exactly what she decides to try out first.
Someone who might be watching from afar may notice that, after she taps herself on the arm with it, she'll seem to suddenly vanish in a blink. ... Or did she? That tiny, colorful 3cm thing on the stump Musashi was originally sitting on couldn't possibly be her, could it?
Yes it is, and she's laughing. This is hilarious, amazing, and kind of terrifying. She can pull off so many dine-and-dashes with this ability if things ever got that bad! Holy geez, she needs to read up on what else this thing can do. ]

The Disciple lifts his head, glancing around at the selection of katanas.]
...Well, they'll certainly get me by here. ["Hey! What's that suppose to mean?!" The dwarf huffs, offended. He just shrugs.] I wouldn't have commissioned you, if you weren't a great weaponsmith. It just wouldn't be the same blade I know, that's all.
[Except for the part where he doesn't know what this weapon in question is. He just knows it's not here.]
no subject
I'll ... pay ...
[ She sounds like she wants to die. But she did hear that bit about "wouldn't be the same blade I know", and it's peaked her interest. Gotta ask this guy about it once there's no interruptions, yup. ]
no subject
Gentle reminders? [The Dwarf waves a hand at the Disciple's suspicious glance. "Back off, boy! Ain't nothing to worry about, just the sword'll start feeling heavy and you won't be able to pick it up. That sort of thing. If she's really late on her payments, it'll just come back to it's maker. No fuss. Just come see me about it should that happen." It's within reason, right? The dwarf doesn't want people walking off with his works, even they did seem like decent people.]

[ She's going to need to find a job of some kind pretty quick, though. Was it really the best idea for her to be blowing her money this fast? But she can't be as useful as she'd like without a second sword. She shakes her head to clear her thoughts, deciding to just "figure it out" later. ]
How often do I need to pay you, anyway? I'd rather not get stuck with a suddenly heavy sword in the middle of a life or death situation.
no subject
"Right well, the Storyteller is going to send you off to fix things eventually. Come back here and pay me after your trips. I'm sure you'll gather enough trinkets from your journey to make a reasonable profit."]

[ Boy was that a quick snap from "why are we here just to suffer" to Perfectly Okay. She ends up looking back to the Disciple again. ]
Hey, how often is that, anyway? Do you know?
no subject
There's only been one since I arrived, about a month ago. There have been smaller assignments since then. [That's...not super reassuring.]
no subject
Oh well. Nothing unusual for her. ]
W-Well, you're still ... technically new. Maybe they'll pick up in frequency!
[ Or at least soon. Either way, she nods to the dwarf. ]
Okay! I'll be sure to stop by every time I come back from one of those trips.
no subject
If it's a matter of urgency as the Storyteller claims, they should be more frequent.
[The weaponsmith chuckles, waving his hand nonchalantly. "As long as the money is flowing in, I ain't going to complain. Now let's get this contract worked out then."]
no subject
Yeah, exactly!
[ Good ol' backup. Either way, she'll nod and get on to working out the contract with the dwarf, mostly just nodding along than anything else. Not just due to a lack of understanding, but boy does she want her hands on a second sword asap. ]
no subject
You're really this desperate to obtain a second sword? [He chimes in at one point. Is there a reason she can't manage with one for the time being?]
no subject
[ She tilts her head back and smiles over at him. ]
My swords are my life, and I enjoy living. That's all it really is.
[ ... Okay, that's 90% of what it is, but that's still the majority of the reason. She can certainly fight with one sword, but going around with a handicap in a world she doesn't understand sounds like a god awful idea to her. ]

It's a style I formed for myself, called "Niten Ichi-Ryuu". Since you understand Japanese and all, I'm sure it makes even more sense why I'd want a second sword as soon as I can get one.
[ "Two Heavens As One". She pauses for a moment, then sheepishly adds: ]
... Ahaha, I completely forgot to introduce myself this whole time, didn't I? Even though you've been so kind as to lead me over here and all. My name is ... well, my full name is a little long. Miyamoto Musashi will do, but don't be shy about just sticking to "Musashi". Who are you?
[ If the poor guy even remembers that. ]
no subject
And honestly, introductions slipped his mind too. Then again...he doesn't normally think about it when he can't remember his own name, and always had someone else talk for him.] Disciple.

I'd personally like to see your technique in practice sometime.

[ ... She's not going to address that. But she'll find a way around that little ... mistake. She does have a coin or two left, and if she can buy flour and eggs, she can make noodles! She'll live, it's fine-- ]
... Oh? Well, once I get used to the weight and feel of this new blade, I'll gladly demonstrate what I'm capable of. In fact, I'd prefer to!
[ Gotta get in as much practice as possible! ]
