Summary: Intro log for Musashi! Settling in during the break, power testing, and stabbing a snowman in the face.


[ a - settling in ]

[ Hoo boy, was it ever chilly outside. For exactly that reason, Musashi decides one of her first stops in this new world she volunteered to go to is the tavern. A nice drink will warm her up! ... Or really, she just realized what she agreed to and noticed she's missing three of her four swords now, so ... yeah, she probably should start this off with a drink.

Now with a tall bottle of booze and a cup to pour it into, Musashi idly flips through the journal to get a better understanding of what's going on, taking breaks to drink here and there. As well as look around the tavern for anyone else who stands out. After all, talking is easier than just reading about all this stuff, right? Besides, there were just some things this journal wasn't gonna answer for her.

If she manages to lock eyes with someone, she'll be giving them a friendly grin before grabbing her drink and moving over to them. If she doesn't spot anyone while she's in the tavern, she'll be doing the same "looking around for others who stand out" thing after she leaves, while wandering around to get familiar with the city layout. ]

Hey there! Do you have a few minutes to spare for me?


[ b - snowmen ]


No, it's just not the same ...

[ Musashi's quietly grumbling to herself, having just stabbed her katana right through the head of a snowman. ... What? It threw a snowball at her first! It had it coming!

Either way, she pulls her sword out of the poor snowman's head - weird, did it always have a frowny-face expression on it? - and looks it over with an edge of disappointment in her expression before sheathing it again. ]

As for you, stop it with the snowballs, okay? Don't think I'm not serious. I'll have you melted down to nothing if I catch you again.

[ She might be sternly scolding this snowman, but she's quick to follow that with an embarrassed grin. Boy is she going to feel silly if it turns out to be neighborhood kids or something. ]


[ c - power test ]


[ Aside from the single katana, Musashi also came in equipped with a small wooden mallet. Sitting out in the woods despite the cold weather, she idly flips it around in her hand, looking it over with interest. This was because of her Essence, right? Should she read up on the lore behind it, or maybe just mess around and see what happens? Well, messing around would be the easiest way to understand, and that's exactly what she decides to try out first.

Someone who might be watching from afar may notice that, after she taps herself on the arm with it, she'll seem to suddenly vanish in a blink. ... Or did she? That tiny, colorful 3cm thing on the stump Musashi was originally sitting on couldn't possibly be her, could it?

Yes it is, and she's laughing. This is hilarious, amazing, and kind of terrifying. She can pull off so many dine-and-dashes with this ability if things ever got that bad! Holy geez, she needs to read up on what else this thing can do. ]

[ Welp, now that he's up, she'll take a step back. And look him over. Not even hiding the fact that she's blatantly sizing him up while she responds. ]

But yup, the Storyteller was the one to bring me over! World hopping is kind of my thing anyway, so I figured hey, why not right?

He does notice her studying him, and although there's a slight arch of the brow, he won't comment yet.]

Heh, I'm in it for the fights. But I'm Rokurou, currently the Huntsman. You?

[ With all those weapons? Hell yes she does. Hearing what his Essence is makes her nod sagely. ]

Huntsman, huh? Yeah, that seems about right. As for me ... Well, since that doesn't sound like a family name, you can call me Musashi. Or Issun-boshi now, I guess!

[ Another look-over, then-- ]

So, those weapons of yours. Not just for decoration, are they? Sure are an awful lot ...

My family name is Rangetsu—I've just gotten used to not bothering with a full introduction. But Issun-Boshi—can't say I'm familiar with that one.

[He then laughs.]

But yeah, these are all real and I use them every time I fight. [And then a grin, understanding why she had been studying him and asking about his weapons.] Interested?

[In a fight that is.]

I guess that Issun person is some tiny swordsman guy or something. I've got no clue either.

[ She shrugs, not particularly bothered by that. ]

But hey ... I can't say I'm not interested. I'd love to test this blade out on you, trust me. There's just one little problem, and until I get that resolved, this Musashi is not getting in any fights she can't see herself winning.

[ ... ]

But definitely later! So don't die until I've had my shot at you, okay?

[ All said cheerfully and even a little sheepishly at times. Because this is a normal conversation people have. Yes. ]

[He looks at her with some mild surprise before he just laughs.]

Oh don't worry, I don't plan on dying anytime soon. But what's your problem? Anything I can do to help?

[So, you know, they can get that fight faster. He doesn't know why, but he almost feels a kind of kindred spirit with her...]

[ With that! She sighs and shrugs. ]

I dunno. Maybe? You've got all those weapons on you, so ...

[ ... ... ... ]

Yeah, maybe you could. When I came here, three of my swords went missing, and I really need at least one more to fight at my best. Fighting with one is entirely possible of course, but I'm too used to two by now that it'd really throw me off! So if you know a place ...

[Well now this is getting interesting.]

You dual wield and use four blades, too? [She is. Actually the first person he's met who's come even close to his fighting style.] Yeah, I can show you a place. It might not be cheap, but could probably figure out a way to pay it off.

"Too"? ... Huh. Maybe the Niten Ichi Ryuu style wasn't as original as I thought. Now I really need to fight you someday.

[ Sure, it makes sense that someone else could come up with it, but she invented the Niten Ichi Ryuu style! This is definitely a surprise on her end, even if she doesn't look too shocked by it. ]

Anyway, I'd like to see just for reference. Money will be a problem for a while, but I always figure something out.

I follow my own version of my family's Rangetsu style, so we may still be different. We'll find out soon enough.

[A grin because "soon enough" may not be soon enough for either of them, now that they both know there's someone who they could potentially go toe to toe with.]

We'll have to head back into town. I can take you now unless you still plan on practicing your whole changing size thing.

Two self-made dual-wielding styles, or something close to it anyway ... Man, I really wish this Issun guy came with more weapons!

[ Dammit Issun, you and your one sword! But now she's really interested in this future fight. Even if she did want to stay behind and keep practicing, that's not something she cares about at all right now. ]

[He then motions for her to follow him down a path to town.]

It'll be faster if we go down this way, so just follow me. But in the meantime, what's your world like? [He's curious now that he knows she's a swordsman similar to him.]

[ And follow she will! ... Along with unsure laughing at his question, despite it being one of the safest things one could ask in this situation. Hrm. ]

Ahah, well ... I'm a unique situation, I think. The one I was originally from was ... Well, it was Japan! You know what I'm talking about, don't you? I mean, with a name like yours and all.

[ no one is going to sit her down and tell her someone with a name like "rokurou rangetsu" isn't japanese

Japan? [If the way he repeats it as a question isn't already tipping her off, the rest of it will confirm it.] Can't say I've heard of it...unless you mean Japon?

[ Rokurou's getting the kind of blank look that might imply she thinks she's getting messed with here. That name sounds like some kind of knock-off brand of her homeland and it's weird. But a second later, the look is gone as she decides to just let it be. ]

Well, just in case it's not really the same thing ... It's an island full of mostly ordinary people, with the occasional weirdo or overpowered person. A very traditional land with a lot of different clans scattered around, serving different lords. There were some oni here and there to contend with, but nothing that can't be handled. [ She laughs a little, shrugging. ] It's kind of hard to describe it to someone who's never heard of it before! Japan is nothing like this place at all, that's for certain.

[He just gives a shrug since aside from the name, he's not sure what her "Japan" is like. But as she talks about it... There's a slight shift in expression as a few of those things sound similar.

...Hm.]

Truthfully, where I live in and my heritage are two different places. My ancestor came from Japon to the country of Midgand and settled there. I've personally never been outside of the continent, but I'm actually thinking about crossing over and see what it's like. I've heard of things about the country, both from family history and what you hear from trade, but it's not a place that is commonly talked about. The whole clan thing, serving different lords—the term "oni" is familiar to me, too.

[Hm. He hasn't really spoken his family's language in a while, mostly because there's no one to talk with and it's not exactly used a lot in Midgand for obvious reasons. But that doesn't mean his family let the old language die out. So....

Have some words that definitely sound similar to Japanese, if just a bit different in dialect and whatnot.]

Hmmm ... I don't know what Midgand is, but--

[ Oh wait, he's speaking ... Japanese. At least, it sounds like Japanese and sure as hell made sense to her, even if the dialect and accent isn't totally familiar. If her suddenly snapping her attention to him as he speaks doesn't clue him in, her response should. Provided he understands her own dialect and accent, because when she responds in Japanese, she's talking pretty excitedly and possibly a bit too fast. ]

Ahh~, I knew it! It really is the same, isn't it! Hey, you can understand me too, right?!

[It's a bit rough due to the slight differences, but hey. At least it's actually pretty close! He's looking a bit excited as well as he speaks in turn.]

Mostly— It sounds a little different, but I can make it out. This is kind of cool.

Yeah, yeah! I can't think of how just yet, but this could even prove useful someday!

[ Like complaining about someone while they're standing right there. Yeah. Definitely a good use of this. ]

In my family we used it like a secret code to communicate with each other for certain missions or jobs. Don't know when that would happen, but could be something like that.

[That totally counts. And because they're standing right in front of them, they're not talking behind their back!!]

A secret code ...? Yeah, I don't know when we'd use it like that, but let's do it anyway. You know, to practice in case we really do need to use it in some big important thing!

So what was your family like?

[ HOO BOY. Musashi's expression turns a little awkward, and eventually she ends up looking away with a forced smile. ]

Well ... I had one? [ ... Sigh. Screw it, this guy seems all right enough, and she's told more to people she's known for just as long as Rokurou. ] ... There were some issues, and my dad was a real bastard. Family infighting where swordsmen are involved is kind of a given, I think.

Sorry, I didn't mean to bring up bad feelings. But I guess I could relate with the infighting a little bit. Although it was mostly me against my oldest brother.

[ Man. This whole thing took a turn. She's curious, especially with them having a few similarities already, but maybe this was best saved over drinks or something ...

Musashi goes quiet for a second or two, then forces a smile. ]

What's Midgand like?
