Chapter 06: Act II

FRANKENHYDE: ACT II—

As everything winds to a close, the atmosphere within the town of Londeva seems a little more cheery with a bit of muted color now filling in here and there. But as night comes and all the lights dim down, a strange weariness and silence overcomes everyone until they fall asleep wherever they are. The sound of a quill tip scratching paper echoes in the distance the following words and brief depictions of the scenes flow through everyone's minds.

We open on a Londeva that is bustling with excitement over its Annual Faire for the Sciences, years before it all will go swiftly to hell.. Victor Frankenstein and Henry Jekyll are the two most promising contestants, competing for the top prize with some Electrical Nonsense and a very glittery volcano, respectively. Jekyll, ever a helpful soul, tries to help Victor with his project when it seems he's struggling, only to get told off as it reminds Victor of his former mentor, who he no longer cares for. The Faire ends in a tie, the judges too impressed with both entries to pick just one winner.

In the present day, Doctors Frankenstein and Jeykll have decided to collaborate on the most ambitious project ever seen: creating life itself. Of course, this is still academia and while they're happy to share notes, they're each doing their own thing; it seems that Victor has chosen to focus on plantlife first, while it is unknown what Jekyll is doing. This is when Victor is visited by his friend Henry Clerval. During the visit, Victor excitedly shows off his latest creation, Audrey Two, a plant capable of speech...and being very silent on the matter of what happened to Audrey One.

It's surely nothing.

As the two old friends chat, Audrey Two occasionally comments on the stench of some of Victor's latest test subjects, comments Victor is quick to brush aside and play off as the plant having a very odd sense of humor. Clerval leaves very, very disturbed.

Meanwhile, across town, Hastie Lanyon stops in to visit his colleague Doctor Jekyll. There's been a rash of robberies that seem to be targeting scientists such as Lanyon and Jekyll, and it's only right that Jekyll be warned. While visiting, Jekyll insists that he hasn't been robbed and has in fact been far too busy to even hear about the gossip, a claim that Lanyon doubts as the lab is remarkably quiet and oddly clean. Jekyll insists, and as there's no real reason to argue, Lanyon drops it.

Later that week, Jekyll runs into his lawyer and good friend Gabriel Utterson and they take the chance to catch up on the most recent goings on. Utterson also mentions the odd character that Lanyon does, and, as they walk, they hear of a young girl that Jekyll feels obligated to help. Despite Utterson nearly terrifying the girl, they're able to help and learn that she was trampled by someone outside Jekyll's place. Jekyll, oddly, doesn't seem too concerned by that and insists on pressing forward as if nothing happened.

Eventually Clerval, still concerned about Victor's odd behavior, gets a hold of Utterson to come help him investigate the lab, especially since Victor's plant was very concerning. No sooner do they reach the lab when Clerval's concerns are validated, as they hear a scream and turn the corner to see Audrey Two, somehow free of its pot, carrying off a human by the leg. Between the two they are able to free the man, and although Utterson was momentarily caught, after Clerval frees him they devise a plan using Utterson's background as a magician. With a fortuitous storm, they use Utterson's mirrors to reflect a lightning bolts to strike down the monstrous plant in a disgusting explosion. However, no one notices something burrowing underground to slither away…

Late one night, Jekyll is heard lecturing an "Edward Hyde" on his behavior. His recklessness is putting them both in danger...which is precisely what Jekyll does not want, as how can he get his data if Hyde gets captured? Jekyll's plan, it seems, has shifted from "create artificial life" to "see what a truly unhinged man will do if given the space to do it", and Edward Hyde is how he plans to do that. In hopes of getting everyone off their tail, Jekyll suggests that Hyde get a new look, to which Hyde agrees.

That same night, a storm rolls in and just so happens to strike Victor's lab with a powerful bolt of lightning, providing him with enough power to finally, finally bring his Creation to life. The Creation recognizes that Victor is their father, and Victor, delighted, tours the lab and house so he can teach the Creation about everything he possibly can. Although there are a couple of hiccups, Victor is able to form something like a familiar bond with his Creation and begins to treat them more like his child.

However, there's a knock on the door as Hyde has come to pay a call to Victor while pretending to be Jekyll. Victor, excited and not terribly observant for some reason, falls for this and lets his "friend" in to see his Creation. Hyde is both amazed and excited upon seeing it, already curious to see how it might behave in town while also warning Victor that it might not be well received. However it is clear he has keen interest in Victor's Creation.

On his second visit, Hyde, learns that Victor in all his infinite wisdom did not bother to name the Creation, and so decides to name them himself: Stixen. They soon decide to leave the lab to experience life, witnessing a robbery. Victor's Creation, or Stixen as they now call themselves, immediately rushes in to try and help but Hyde stops them. Stixen is confused by this and this difference between the two Creations will continue...

When everyone awakens, they will feel refreshed and a bit more invigorated than they had previously, and when they look out the window snow will be falling and everywhere is now covered with Christmas decorations. It might feel strange since just the night before Halloween was still around. It's as if they skipped an entire season.

Yet despite the appearance of festive cheer, newspapers headline the rise in crime and attacks upon the locals with no sign of catching the culprit in sight. Suspicion mounts amongst the populace, and although they are Blots they cast wary glances not only at each other but at the Aspects as well. The ones who were friendlier in the beginning are now more neutral or even hostile, sometimes ignoring or threatening the Aspects.

There are also strange creature sightings in the parts of town that are still dark and deteriorated, as if fear has clung to its corners to prevent it from being restored. Or perhaps it's just a reflection of the story itself? But these creatures appear mutant and could either be Erasers mixed in or creatures born from the story's development. Whatever the case, they are hostile and are prone to attacking. Although most keep to the darkest and unsavory parts of town, some do lurk to the more populated areas, so some "creature control" may be needed.

With all the tension, it's difficult for the city to feel any kind of Christmas cheer, but perhaps that cheer is exactly what is needed to help combat the gloominess. But with how things may end up towards the end of the Act...perhaps this is only the beginning of what's to come.

The second Act is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels.

A reminder that all Hyde roles will have a forced influence to act out their inner dark personality. This is basically a "personality switch," so they will not be aware of it at the time. They will return to normal upon leaving the scene and will remember what transpired afterwards. By now everyone should be aware of this occurring, but it should also be noted that the influence is stronger with potential to get more violent than usual in the later scenes. Another quick reminder that Frankenstein's Monster is referred to as Stixen, so be sure to use the proper name while threading! And finally, if you have a scene that is reliant on the outcomes of previous scenes, be sure to check what they are. We have quick notes on the scene prompts, but the sign-ups may have more details for you to work with or you can contact the players if needed.

And this time around, we've got costumes for everyone! Please see the list below for reference:

Finally, just to be clear, characters who are in Main Scenes are not immediately dropped in to their location and will have to go through specially marked doors and then return. Characters will also be aware of their roles and partner prior to entering the scene, so it's possible for them to meet and coordinate beforehand or meet within the scene for the first time. This may be more useful for those involved with the death/fighting scenes. Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.

§ sub quests.

Everyone is free to participate in the Sub Quests. There are no specific top levels, so you're free to incorporate them however you wish in your own top level.

¶ I. Town Clean Up.While there is definitely a lot going on right now, there's still a lot of things in the town that need to get done.

1. Salt Mines. The city is currently experiencing a shortage of salt and with the holidays coming up as well as all the scientists running around, that won't do. Volunteers are expected to make haste to the local salt mine and pick up a newly invented type of mechanical pickaxe. But instead of steam or electricity, it's said to be powered by anger. So the madder you are, the quicker it'll break through those deposits and the sooner everyone can punch out for the day.
   
   
2. Life of Crime. If toiling away in the mines isn't your sort of thing, Londeva is experiencing a bit of a crime wave at the moment, so expect to play detective. Or at least lend a hand with apprehending pickpockets, purse snatches, and a few of the townspeople swear someone recently ransacked their homes and terrorized everybody, so that's a major instance of disturbing the peace. Investigations will lead back to the damaged blots and creatures from Act I, so you may need to put up a fight to restore some semblance of peace to the city.
   
   
3. Put Out the Fires. Ever wanted to be a volunteer firefighter? Of course. Okay, even if you didn't, the city's in need of them either because of the crime wave or just because these things happen, there's been a rash of house fires lately. No fancy engines or anything though, grab a bucket or help man the pumps and save some of these homes before they go up in smoke. Maybe if you're really lucky, you could even steer the engine.

¶ II. Reindeer Games. After the science fair in Act I, a number of curious mechanical reindeer have been spotted around town. They seem friendly enough, you can go right up to them and pet them, but while they seem docile, if they sense someone who has been "naughty" their eyes will turn red and start attacking with reckless abandon. And maybe eye lasers.

1. Making Christmas. Around the time the reindeer start showing up, mysterious presents start appearing in people's homes. There's no "From" on the tag and the contents are always wrong. It could be something as harmless as an itchy ugly holiday sweater or more dangerous, like a mechanical snake that's come to life and snapping at people. Either help collect and neutralize some of these peculiar presents or perhaps you've found one in your room addressed to you?
   
   
2. Reindeer Round Up. With the reindeer being friendly, it was probably only a matter of time before some untoward individuals, be they blots or the homunculi from the last act, have decided to use them to cause trouble,riding and racing through the streets of Londeva, startling passerby, smashing windows and just generally wreaking havoc. It's time to saddle up (metaphorically or literally if you'd like, there's probably a robo reindeer around) and put a stop to these shenanigans by unhorsing the varmints and herding the automatons away from troublemakers like these.

¶ III. Party Hearty. As the holidays draw nearer, talk of work fades, things calm down as much as can be expected in Londeva, and the festivities begin.

1. Party All the Time. It seems like there's always a holiday party of some sort going on somewhere in the city. Have a drink, cut a rug, enjoy having a break from everything else going on. Okay, maybe not too much of a break as the local gossip will reflect what's been going on during the act.
   
   
2. Spiked Punch. Of course, things were never going to stay too calm at these parties. It seems someone (or something) has gotten a hold of a diluted form of Jekyll's formula and decided to liven up the party by introducing it to the punch bowl. It won't result in full on Hyde transformations, but things are still certainly going to get a bit rowdier now, as the guests seem to have abandoned the idea of a Victorian Christmas party and things are beginning to look a lot more like a bar brawl. Thankfully the effects are only temporary.
   
   
3. Treevenge. Eventually things settle back down enough to have the big annual tree lighting in the town square. However, unbeknownst to everyone below, Victor's plant creature has burrowed its way into the tree and over time has merged with its branches. So when the tree is lit, it comes to life, branches flailing and lobbing ornaments at the townspeople, while occasionally launching into its own versions of various carols, assaulting the townspeople's ears as well as well...the rest of them. Time to band together and participate in the beloved yuletide tradition of fighting a giant singing Christmas tree.

Comments

SCENE #1: JEKYLL AND HYDE - REAPER AND MORDRED

Time has passed as Jekyll continues to use Hyde as a research study on the behaviors of an "unhinged man," but Hyde has decided to be more than just "Jekyll's study subject." Cornering his creator, Hyde demands to transfer all power and properties to be under his name. Will Jekyll allow it in the name of research? Or will he protest for his subject having gone too far? Hyde will need to be convincing to persuade Jekyll.

[Mordred's not exactly in the best mood after Act I, so she really wouldn't have been too interested in preplanning the scene out before stepping through the door. At most, she might've thrown out an annoyed “let's get this over with” and that's about the extent of her prescene socializing.

She's not really worried about Ren's warning about Hyde either. She likes to think she's pretty aware of her negative aspects and...really, what's the worst that could happen? It's not like there's a Camelot here for her to ruin or anything.]

Oi, Jekyll! We need to talk.

[The scene seems easy enough to her, get Jekyll to give Hyde all his stuff, shouldn't be too hard. Should be a walk in the park if you ask her. Not that anyone actually did.]

SCENE #2: JEKYLL AND UTTERSON - DOJIMA AND REN

To keep up with appearances, Jekyll is hosting a friendly dinner party with other scientists, researchers, and friends. By this time Utterson has some suspicions about Hyde regarding the recent rise in crime and moves to talk privately with his friend. However Jekyll surprises him by presenting him with the papers for the transfer of power to Hyde. Utterson immediately questions why was he giving his stuff to (who Utterson believes to be) a criminal? What's going on? Will Jekyll reveal the truth about Hyde's activities and their relation to the recent crime spree?

[ Well, he'd been hoping to be able to track down Ren to actually talk to the kid, but it seemed like the Storyteller had taken care of that. They'd need to do the scene, of course, but Dojima had a feeling they'd need to get some things settled before they could even move on to it. ]

[ ...He adjusted his coat, and hat, frowning at himself in the mirror, away from the crowd of Blots representing the crowd of academics and friends 'Jekyll' had invited. Not the worst thing he'd been made to wear by a long shot, but still, so prim and proper looking. ]

SCENE #3: HYDE AND DANVERS - MAKOTO AND KEN [CW: VIOLENCE/DEATH]

One night Hyde decides to take things a step further. As he prowls through the dark alleyways, he encounters a young man named Danver and a bloody fight ensues. [NOTE: Danvers dies.]

[Despite the initial warning about Hyde, there was some hope things wouldn't turn out as badly as he hoped. He was warned about a possible death but he hoped his leader wouldn't go that far.

As he walked through the door, he took in a deep breath. All he had to do was just get this scene done and over with. It wasn't any different from what he had to do before, it was just a matter of acting it out.

Holding his hat in place, he started to walk down the streets with his guard up. If Makoto were to try something, he had to be ready.]

SCENE #4: HYDE AND FRANKENSTEIN’S MONSTER - JEAN AND RAGNA

After the encounter with Danver, Hyde happens to run into Stixen who had been sent out to retrieve some materials for the lab. Seeing Hyde's condition, Stixen tries to help him. No longer playing "nice" guy, will Hyde try to corrupt Stixen? What will Stixen think? [NOTE: The outcome is indecisive.]

[ Ragna's research for whatever is happening in this story was minimal at best, and quite frankly, he doesn't like it one bit. Getting cast for the role of the Monster didn't change his mind, either. But it is what it is, so he'll have to deal with it. ]

One of the main characters, my ass.

[ ... with as much whining as possible. Being an errand boy doesn't sit well with him, so he decides to search for his so-called partner in order to get this whole thing over with. Walking into a nearby alley, he finds a person ("Hyde", he assumes) sitting on the ground and... covered in blood?

Well. Someone's had a rough day.

Being a considerate person that he is, Ragna kicks the guy lightly to get his attention. ]

Hey. You alive?

SCENE #5: JEKYLL AND HYDE - ADACHI AND YU

Eventually all good things must come to an end. After Hyde returns with traces of blood, Jekyll confronts him. He had made a lot of allowance in what Hyde did, but murder had always been a line that wasn't to be crossed. The two engage in a fight and one of them ends up locked up in the cellar. But who will it be? [NOTE: Jekyll gets locked in the cellar]

[Adachi's surpringly early at the scene. Maybe it was the joy of having a body again that made him want to move around rather than stay put or maybe he was just curious.

Either way, he turns to look at his scene partner. Of course it has to be Yu.

A bloody Yu.]

Well now, what's this about?

SCENE #6: FRANKENSTEIN’S MONSTER AND AGATHA - ZIDANE AND KARKAT

The next day, while wondering what to do about Hyde, Stixen runs into a young girl, Agatha De Lacy, who is trying to help a small kitten down from a tree. Will Stixen help? If things go well, perhaps Agatha will offer Stixen to play at her house. Or things could go terribly if Hyde was a bad enough influence on Stixen. But maybe Agatha will try to keep Stixen on a friendlier path? [NOTE: A neutral, possibly positive conversation.]

[So here is Karkat, playing Agatha. Wearing a dress that Kanaya would surely swoon over, if she were here. He grumbles under his breath as he fumbles with his hat, trying to make it sit on his unruly hair. He looks ridiculous. In fact, the fact that he was cast in this role is just utterly stupid. Seriously, he looks like some hoity toity Highblood in clothes like this, and they keep itching! So, he's already kind of in a bad mood.]

[So when he sees the kitten up in the tree? He's a little... less than gentle in his attempts to lower it from the branch.]

Hey! Purrbeast! Unless you want to slip and fall to your death and be yet another cautionary tale told to stupid wigglers who eat their own slime, get your furry ass down from there!

[The kitten just mews indignantly at him.]

SCENE #7: UTTERSON AND JEKYLL - CRANE AND LUCA

[storyevents]

That same morning, Utterson rushes to Jekyll to alert him about Danver's attack and request for assistance. If Jekyll is locked in the cellar then Utterson will have to find and free him. If Hyde was supposedly locked in the cellar, then Utterson will question Jekyll about Hyde, at which point Jekyll will lead Utterson down to the cellar and they will find him missing. In either case, Jekyll will still need to see Danvers's body and and will discover signs that it was indeed Hyde who attacked him.

[ ... What did that book say about this scene? Something about a cellar?

The exact instructions got muddled in his worries and confusion, so finding himself in the cellar comes as a bit of a shock. ]

Wha- Where am I...? [ A door? There's a door! He rushes over to try the door--

All he can do is rattle the knob. It won't budge. ]

What?! No, no no no no! [ His heart starts racing as he's reduced to banging on the door, desperately trying to escape. He can't be locked up again, he can't-- ]

HELP! SOMEBODY! OPEN THIS DOOR, PLEASE!

SCENE #8: HYDE AND AGATHA - EIZEN AND ROKURO [CW: VIOLENCE/DEATH]

Unbeknownst to Stixen, Hyde had watched his encounter with Agatha and is disgusted by what he witnessed. In the middle of the night, Hyde sets the De Lacy cottage on fire. He then runs into Agatha who is fleeing and is separated from her brother and father. Agatha seeks Hyde for help but he instead attacks her. Can she persuade him to stand down? Or is her fate sealed in death? [NOTE: Agatha dies.]

[Partnering with Eizen again and in drag... He swears the Storyteller has an agenda against him or something. And a little girl!? Ugh, well hell just be his usual self and add his own "flair" to this role. Hope the Storyteller can work in the fact that Agatha suddenly knows how to use swords or something.

Before heading in, the two had met and had a little discussion about how things would go down. They know whoever gets Hyde will have some changes, but they didn't expect too much and even joked about killing each other ("Would it be bad if Agatha killed Hyde?" "Not happening."). However they were more than ready to just have a good fight so they enter without much worry.

And at first, things seem normal for the two of them. Rokurou just stares at the dumb dress he's stuck in before he pulls out his swords. He's definitely tearing off the skirt if it gets in his way, but for now he accepts the handicap as a challenge.]

So, how you feeling? Ready to get your ass handed to you?

SCENE #9: VICTOR AND FRANKENSTEIN’S MONSTER - MINAKO AND REN

[storyevents]

Stixen is the main suspect for the De Lacy tragedy and a mob gathers in front of Victor's lab. But Victor takes Stixen's side and tries to convince the mob. The two must work together as the mob doesn't appear to want to listen and must either try to calm them or fend them off.

So Ren is Stixen this time. Seriously, what kind of name is Stixen? It sounds like a crappy swedish punk band that's trying too hard to be edgy.

But yeah as soon as Ren enters the scene, he can hear shouting from outside the door in front of him. He can see from the windows that a mob has gathered and seemingly demanding that he and whoever is playing Victor to come out.

"This is not gonna be fun."

He's gonna wait for his scene partner to show up before facing the mob outside.

SCENE #10: VICTOR AND HYDE - NAOMI AND KAZUMA [CW: VIOLENCE/DEATH]

[storyevents]

Hoping to find help in defending Stixen, Victor rushes to Jekyll. Before he reaches Jekyll's home, however, he encounters Hyde who has disguised himself as Jekyll once again. At first he's unaware, but eventually he realizes something is amiss and Victor asks "Jekyll" where Hyde is. Hyde reveals himself and kills Victor.

She felt like she should be surprised, but honestly, she's not. These were both stories she'd been more familiar with that having a scene like this would only be inevitable.

... What she was more concerned for was how her partner for it was going to be in the end. Still, she would play it straight - relatively speaking.

The first part of the act was stepping through the door.

That immediate second part was taking off the god awful glasses, she couldn't see through them at all. Rubbing her temple, she hurried her way to locate some help. There's only so much Victor would be able to do against a mob to protect Stixen, but the next issue would be locating the few not stricken by mob mentality. Jekyll, of course, was perhaps the first and only option to mind at this point. He would know what could be done.

Wildcard - Locked to Makoto Yuki
[Ren was trying to chill after the last scene he was in. Which was slightly better than the last two other than the awkwardness of being forced to talk with Dojima and then doing the scene with him. Even if he's ashamed of himself for even considering abandoning everything and risking others being harmed.

As he was talking a walk, he notices a familiar figure in the distance. Is that...?]

Makoto?

[He heads over to see him.]

Spiked Punch
[Honestly with how tough things have been, Ren needed some fun. So he went to the parties and get himself some free food and drinks.
In hindsight, he should have known better than to trust punch. Usually someone spikes the punch with something like alcohol, or some cases poop in it. Thankfully it's not the latter. However, the punch was indeed spikes. Not with alcohol, but with a diluted form of the Hyde formula.

So while Ren's Shadow doesn't take over his body, it does start to have a lot more influence over him. Making his darker and more violent side that he only saves for shadows come out.]

...Not bad.

[Then he notices fights starting to break out and he smirks. Rushing in to join in the fighting.
He manages to use his Phantom Thief skills to beat up a couple of guys who clearly aren't good at hand to hand combat.
As he knocks a third guy out after the first two, he puts a foot on top of the unconscious man's chest for a moment.]

Next!

[Someone might wanna snap some sense back into Ren before he really gets hurt.]

Reindeer Round Up
[Ren is definitely gonna do some good and decides to help out with the rogue blots riding around in robo reindeer causing trouble. Especially since he's from the countryside, so he has some idea on what to do.

He manages to get one of his own and now he's going around the town, trying to chase down one in order to get it off the robo reindeer, and get the reindeer back to where it's supposed to be.

As he goes by, there's a chance he might not see your character coming. Do they get run over, or do they help Ren out?]

[Makoto couldn't face Ken. Almost immediately after the scene was over, he ran. He was a coward. He knew that Ken would ultimately be alright. That he would not be dead permanently and the wounds would not be there anymore. But that didn't stop the guilt from crushing him, from his heart dropping into his stomach as he came back to his senses. Even after he changed his clothes, scrubbed his skin raw, he couldn't face his comrade.

So, he ran. He ran out of the apartment until his legs wouldn't allow him to run anymore and he promptly threw up on the ground. His wings curled tightly at his back. His throat burned as he coughed and sputtered, he didn't bother wiping the tears rolling down his cheek as his stomach continued to try and heave. He was so pathetic.]

Town Clean Up - Salt Mines
[ Luca had to read the summary so far in his journal again. Did he- He most certainly did write the old man into the story here. Not the intended outcome at all, but there doesn't seem to be much detail other than the fact "Victor" no longer cares for that man.

So it should be fine, right?

Even if nothing of consequence affected the story, that incident sticks in the back of his mind as he goes about his day. He's all too aware of the behavioral shift in the blot townsfolk. Even the most docile ones seem to regard him with a suspicious glare… But why? Why are they all staring at him?

He adjusts the eyepiece over his damaged eye as he passes by a stand recruiting for the salt mines. Hard labor is something he's clearly unsuited for, and yet he can't help but inspect the strange pickaxes. ]

Powered by anger, are they…? Seems kinda silly but… Maybe if I…

[ He gives the blot at the stand a wide berth before he attempts to use his essence on the pickaxe. Maybe the concentration of dark energy could-

BOOM!

Logically, they have plenty of anger powered pickaxes, and yet against all evidence to the contrary he's half expecting to be accosted by an armed guard. ]

[ Luca hasn't left the apartment complex in the past few days.

He's made himself quite scarce since the pickaxe incident. He only ever comes out of his apartment for meals, and even so he only sticks around to eat with everyone half the time. He seems unusually nervous at the moment, haunted by muddled memories and worrying thoughts. He didn't tell anyone what happened to his mentor, did he? Was that written into the story, or is his mentor somehow revived as a side character here? Luca didn't ask to be a murderer… He wasn't a thief, he wasn't! So why were they staring at him like a criminal? Like some sort of monster?!

This endless stream of distressing thoughts has driven him to hole up in his room. He keeps glancing outside the window, dreading the possibility of someone barging in and hauling him away in handcuffs even though he knows trapping himself in a decent lodging isn't that much better than awaiting death in a dingy cell…

What did the Storyteller say about death? He doesn't remember, but it seemed important.

Other aspects might hear him pacing in his apartment, or they might hear him whimpering to himself… Maybe even sobbing a bit in fear. Someone might want to check on him. ]

Reindeer Games
[ After observing the deer from a distance he's noticed a pattern in their behavior. Although they seem docile to most people, they are prone to attack those who are not so nice.

Maybe the deer know better than the blots. He had to risk injury to calm his nerves.

That wild idea is what finally drags Luca out of the apartment. He's spotted a mechanical reindeer grazing on the other side of the street… ]

H-hello there… [ He calls out to get the deer's attention, holding out a trembling hand and inching closer with an awkward smile. ] Don't be shy, now…

[ He winces as the deer slowly walks up to him and sniffs his hand… He closes his eyes, bracing himself for the worst…

… Until the deer merely presses its snout into his palm. ]

Huh? [ He opens his eyes, staring at the deer in confusion as it gets close enough to rest its neck on his shoulder… ] I…

[ Oh. It seems the deer merely wants to cuddle him… May as well wrap his arms around its neck and pet it. It is a comfort, after all. ]

[ The deer seemed encouraging enough. It was the holiday season, wasn’t it? And it was All Hollow’s Eve just a week ago, it seems… Is time moving faster, or is he losing track of it again?

That’s less important than the locals calming down, isn’t it? Look, there’s a holiday party being held by some well-to-do blot person over at a nearby town house, and they seem to have opened their doors to guests. Why not come by for a visit?

This proves to be an embarrassing mistake, and not because the blots were hostile.

See, although Luca was experiencing a severe case of deja vu, the nuances of the party seemed to overwhelm him. Why was everyone chattering about petty gossip? Why did they insist on serving cucumber sandwiches and wine when they could afford a decent meal? Were actual meals reserved for dinner parties only? How on Earth was he supposed to dance to this live music?

Why did he even come here? He may as well leave while no one else was paying him mind, but to do that he has to find the right moment to excuse himself. Until then, he’s awkwardly milling near a bookshelf… ]

She never liked them, even when her parents threw them on occasion. Not able to simply shrink away. Of course now she wasn't so small she could simply wander off without notice- it wasn't stopping her as she moved through the home, however. Same as it hadn't stopped her from wandering in at the sound of music.

Didn't stop her from slipping most of a cheese board in to her basket either, Toto keeping close to her feet so there was no worry of him getting them. Passing a cup of what smelled like spiced apple cider from one hand to the other as it kept fingers warm, looking over items on the walls. Ignoring those milling about-]

[What a strange coincidence that the reindeer appear and then people start getting presents, but they're very weird presents, and some even look uncomfortable. Now, normally she wouldn't be one to deny a Christmas gift (or any gift at all), but when she gets a present that's a pack of mouse traps, yeah... okay, she closed it back up.]

[Setting it aside (someone could find it uh oh), she headed out to help others that might have received a little more dangerous gifts. If she found someone that needed mouse traps, well, she knew where some were.]

[Roxas is always looking for ways to help out when he’s in Drafts, and this is no exception. There have been a lot of fires lately, so Roxas feels he’s definitely got some skills to help out here.]

[If you’re helping to put out the fires, Roxas will possibly be nearby, especially if there’s a nearby source of water. He will be singing to the water, manipulating large swathes of water so that they can levitate up in the air and drop on some of the fires to help douse them.]

[The fact that the machine is powered by anger is quite possibly the stupidest thing Karkat has ever heard, but the fact that the mechanical pickaxe is humming away happily and chipping away at the salt is enough to irritate Karkat.]

This is absofuckingloutely ridiculous. I honestly don’t know whether I should be impressed, insulted, or offended by what I’m seeing here. A machine fuelled by anger? Seriously?? What idiot was out there thinking “hey, you know what would be cool? A machine powered by anger! And then next I will produce a toilet powered by flatulence and fecal matter!” Like seriously, this is the kind of stupidity I expect a literal wiggler to come up with.

[But lo and behold, despite his ranting the machine is working! He turns to whoever happens to be standing nearby, moving his hands at the machine.]

Reindeer Round Up
[Those mechanical reindeer sure are annoying! But Karkat’s had experience with dealing with wayward creatures, and it usually involves Strifes of some kind.]

[When he sees one of the reindeer around, Karkat gets his staff ready. As it gets near, he extends the staff and takes aim, and with a well-timed WHACK! he swings at the reindeer’s wayward varmints. His staff collides with the reindeer’s rider, causing it to be sent flying off.]

[The reindeer, unfortunately, lets out a mechanical cry and knocks into Karkat, knocking the troll over.]

Augh!

Party All The Time/Spiked Punch
[Karkat can be found at the festivities, eyeing the foreign foods and sampling them carefully. Anything with meat or peaches will be snatched up by the troll and chomped on, and might be watching people dancing on the dance floor. If anyone wants to talk to him he will be up for conversation, if folks are wanting to talk to him.]

[Of course, later on in the night, Karkat will drink some of the punch and find it… tastes differently. By the time he realizes others are starting to act funny, he’s starting to feel the urge to fight just as much as everyone else. He turns and glares at the nearest person.]

[Crime increasing in the area is never good, even if it’s just among blots in a Draft. But fortunately for anyone investigating any crimes, Ana’s developed something of a ‘network’ of information they can draw on.]

[Said information comes in the form of the stray cats in the area. While investigating one of the breaking-and-entering cases, Ana takes a moment to step away and kneel next to a stray cat, who meows up at her. She hums in consideration, reaching down to pet the cat.]

It appears that there were two criminals, and they took off not too long ago.

Well, he couldn't just toss out mirrors. But he could destroy them from his room. He smashed one of them.

After cringing at the wounds for a moment and trying to control himself, he turned to look at the other mirror in his room.

"Partner, over there! I think that's the guy!" Yosuke shouted, immediately taking off after the person. It was probably a blot, but it could be a normal person too. He wasn't sure yet, but the fact that it was apparently terrorizing people led credence to the latter rather than the former. Still, he couldn't be too cautious, someone had to put a stop to the crime! "Get back here, jerk!"

He hadn't drawn his weapons yet, but he was totally tempted to. If it was a regular person though, he couldn't. He didn't want to be responsible for anything too rash and dangerous. It wasn't Adachi, after all.

A rather unmanly shriek echoes down the hall of the apartment as Yosuke very quickly tossed the present to the ground and all but scrambled up on a dresser. The reason? A very ugly fish with those creepy fishy eyes and razor sharp teeth was flopping around the room and totally blocking the exit.

"Ugghh!! Why did it have to be a fish?! C'mon, man, this isn't cool!"

The fish snapped closer to him and he yelped, scrambling further and smacking into the wall. Nope, nope nope nope. This wasn't happening. Those eyes were going to haunt his nightmares now.

Put Out the Fires

It was evening, so his vision was back to being shit without his glasses but it also meant his healing powers were a bit more powerful under the moonlight. So, he opted to help those who were injured by the fires. He was sat down heavily as it seemed like the fire for this recent one was finally put out and while the more severely burned victims were taken away, he'd healed all the ones he could that were a bit more manageable at his level.

One of the firefighters handed him some water and Yosuke took it with a nod of thanks. "Whew... that was rough, are your guys okay? Yeah? Good, I'm glad to hear it!"

Man, he was beat.

1. Reindeer Round Up
[Edelgard can't help her compulsion to herd, so when the reindeer start causing trouble she'll be out their trying to corral the mechanical beasts. Her crook has been shifted from its normal wooden visage to look like a gilded staff with a celestial compass atop it (somewhat resembling Prague's astronomical clock). However when she gets frustrated with some of them, or gets kicked by one, her instincts take over and she angrily thrusts her staff through its neck.

Which then gets the reindeer she already herded to come at her with their eye lasers! You can either:
A. Help her herd before she gets frustrated
or
B. Help her fend off rampant reindeer trying to laser her lights out!]

2. Spiked Punch
[Rowdy isn't the only thing that the spiked punch influences Edelgard with. While she doesn't fully transform, her sclera do go black and her eyes glow red. Edelgard's skin at her lips turn black and veiny distortions around her eyes like crows feet sprawl across the corners of her eyes and cheeks. Behind her shoulder blades are small amalgamations of hegemon wings and eagle wings.

Sure, she's missing her clothes fusing to her body, her odd leather like inhuman musculature, and weird venus fly trap petals that hover around her neck. However that doesn't stop her from reaching out with her blackened, clawed hands to grab the nearest bystander and harangue them.]

3. Wild Card
[After the belligerency wears off Edelgard is still looking... pretty rough, honestly. The black veiny lines that plagued her face begin to retreat and the dark color that creeped up her forearms now fades closer to her wrists. Her unfortunately, tattered outfit (complete with accessories to match her staff and appropriate tights) hangs off her from the multiple scuffles she got into. She sits at a public bench, and allows most to pass her by, but she might just stop you and say:]

[Dimitri is, in fact, having fun. Winter holidays were an absolute joy for him as a child. His father would bundle him up and ride out to the Fraldarius estate to stay for a couple of weeks while he did a little winter hunting with Rodrigue, work put to the side for a brief period of time. Sylvain and Ingrid would visit a fair amount too, and Glenn was still alive. They're some of his fondest memories. So he's all smiles as he turns toward Edelgard, his thick suit jacket preventing him from feeling the change in her hand until he actually sees her. His smile freezes in place upon meeting her eyes, eyes that haunt his darkest dreams.

The cup he was holding crashes to the ground as he reaches out to touch his fingertips to her cheek, tracing the ghoulish lines there.]

[ Lena might seem a bit young to be working in the salt mines...and she probably was, but she really just needed something to do. And hacking away with a pickaxe felt like a good way to deal with some of the leftover feelings she had from the scene she'd previously played.

Honestly, the whole story - stories? She isn't even really sure anymore - just rubbed her the wrong way, bringing up things that she thought she'd already put to rest before. The fact that it still bothered her was the worst part of it, and it felt oddly satisfying to just hack away at the rocks to mine up salt.

She doesn't know that the pickaxe is fueled by anger, but she seems to be getting the job done anyway so she doesn't think about it. ]

[ She wasn't sure what to think of the box that she'd found addressed to her, or the fact that inside it was probably the girliest looking doll that she'd ever seen. And while it probably wasn't the worst gift, it also wasn't...for her. ]

[ Being able to fly certainly had its advantages, which include being able to fly up to pour water on higher parts of the house. It's slow going, though, flying back and forth to refill the bucket, but at least he's able to go back and forth quickly enough.

After emptying yet another bucket, he flies back down to whoever's pumping the water out to get another refill. ]

Is this even doing anything?

[ There had to be a better way of putting out the fire. But not knowing how structurally sound the house was, he was afraid of trying to use any wind to put out the fire. ]

Reindeer Round-Up

[ When the reindeer start causing trouble, Crane quickly rushes in to draw the creatures' attention from people. If someone is nearby, he'll call out: ]

I'll knock the rider off, you get control of the machine!

[ Then he dashes off, and after a brief struggle he does as he says and the rider is knocked off the reindeer, which continues running through the streets. ]

Spiked Punch

[ Crane was well practiced in the disciplines of Kung Fu, and if asked he could probably lecture about the importance of not using it to show off or get into pointless fights.

Unfortunately, that's usually when hasn't been drinking something spiked.

As it is right now, Crane could be found in the middle of the brawl, and while his form seems a little unstable he still has no trouble avoiding other swings and tossing people out of the way.

...maybe, uh...try to stop him before he hurts someone? ]

Maybe a bigger bucket. [Not being the most helpful, Kazuma shows up at the scene of the fires. He doesn't seem as upset about these fires and watching everyone frantically running away from them or trying to put them out.

Makoto was using the pickaxe remarkably well. Maybe a little too well.

"That’s alotta anger in that small body, huh? Wonder what ticked him off."

The axe felt oddly comforting in his hands, to be honest. It was a size and a weight that he had used before. Which only made channeling his anger all the easier. It was like everything from the past year was now bubbling to the surface, only reaching that tipping point when the Storyteller (a hearty whack here) made him kill Ken (a rather guttural growl and smack there). Once the grief and sorrow was gone, Ken having returned hale and whole (and older?!) and keeping a slight distance physically, Makoto just really needed to let it all out.

Salt deposits essentially went flying and he was probably being too brutal. But the other miners were pretty clear they were not going to go near an angry teen with a pickaxe.

Reindeer Games

Well, this was no good. Makoto very easily knocked a varmint off the robo reindeer and promptly stole it for himself. He used a shadow to knock the man out, alerting the authorities before riding off with a “hyah!” after the remaining troublemakers.

Blots that didn’t seem too far gone were simply unseated and Makoto led their reindeer away while the ones further gone or if it was a homunculi were outright destroyed by his sword. Makoto may not be as angry as he was in the mines, but there was a certain gleam in his eyes reminiscent of his days as the battle leader of SEES.

Party All the Time

Makoto was not a party person, but he was good at being a wallflower. He had a plate of food (too much as usual) and he sat at any particular ledge or bench or whatever was nearby to eat quietly and people watch. Unfortunately, without his headphones, he couldn’t pretend that it was too loud and he couldn’t hear anyone.

It didn’t mean he wasn’t ignoring people. Because he was, earning quite a few looks of annoyance and/or disdain. He just didn’t want to talk to strangers, thanks. But if it was a fellow Essence, Makoto was a little more inclined to listen. A gentle tilt of his head, eyes meeting theirs as he ate.

Finally, he spoke. “You doing okay?”

Ren had been having some fun at the party. ...Mainly after drinking the punch, getting into fights on purpose and winning. Seems even without being able to become Joker, he can still fight decently. Just not with a bow and arrow apparently.

He did eventually get bored of it though, since it seems like he was the best fighter here, so he takes a break, drinking more punch.

It's then that he walks near Makoto and hears him. He makes a Joker like grin and turns around to face him. Ren's dark grey eyes have a yellowish tint to it and he's not wearing his glasses (having put them away for safety).

"Oh I'm doing just fine. You seem to be doing better too." He walks closer to him. "So are you waiting for someone or just hanging here all by yourself? It would be a shame for my cute wildcard senpei to be all alone."

Hoo boy, it seems Ren is in a flirty mood.

A. Reindeer Games

[This really wasn’t how Ken was expecting. He could have sworn this was all a dream before waking up in his own world. At first, he wanted to tell his friends what he experienced but it didn’t say anything.

How else was he supposed to explain to his teammates their dead leader killed him in a world involving fairy tales? They wouldn’t believe it and didn’t need to be discussed. However, if it was a dream, why did it feel so real? Why did it feel like he really was going to die?

Now that he arrived here, he couldn’t even tell if this was all a dream or was this real anymore. Especially when he sees reindeers with eye lasers. That was new.

As he looked around, he had to make sure if there was anyone else in danger. If anyone should look around, they’ll see him attempting to attack said reindeer!]

B. Treevenge.

[Despite everything, Ken had forgotten how strange this place could be. He didn’t mind, it was a nice break from everything he went through. Despite how there was a giant monster roaming around the town, the kid couldn’t help but laugh at the sight.

Seeing this was much better than dealing with another god like entity.]

[At first, Ken wasn’t sure what to expect when he was given a present. A part of him immediately screamed how suspicious it was when there was no name attached to it. As he kept on looking at the box, he started moving it lightly around.

Looking at the person next to him, he couldn’t help but wonder…]

Excuse me, did you get a gift too? Do you know who gave it to you? [Because it sure felt kind of heavy for a gift]

[Did Zidane get a gift? He definitely did, but he was confused why and from who... and again why because it had been growling. Opening it right now would be probably the worst idea ever.]

A.Life of Crime

[ If you know Dojima, you know he's going to be out dealing with helping the blots with the crimes around town. Sometimes it's chasing after pickpockets, sometimes it's burglars, and sometimes it's dealing with mishapened blots and homoculi that've continued to cause trouble. In all cases he's dragged the culprit back to Jail... while making sure they get probably clothed, fed, and treated well. No damn abusive jail situations under his watch. ]

[ Do you see him out chasing after some pickpocket? Or outside a house, recording notes in his note pad-- or maybe he stops you to ask-- ]

Hey, have you seen a blot missing an arm go by here recently...?


B. Treevenge.

For the love of-- Hey, watch out!!

[ Don't mind Dojima pushing you out of the way of an oncoming assault of ornaments, his shield blocking them with dome like force field. Glancing back at you, his face is serious-- ]

You alright?

[ Looks like you both have a fight on your hands-- ]

C. Party All the Time.

[ You could find him just at the gatherings held at the common room, sitting and trying to warm up by the fire, usually a drink in hand. Dojima'd offer you space to sit if wanted, glancing towards you-- ]

D. Christmas Gifts

[ But of course, it was Christmas time, and it was interesting to actually enjoy it PROPERLY here instead of being lost in a nightmare. Europe did it differently than Japan, after all-- Japan sort of borrowed it, and it was more of a 'date night' thing... Here, it had a whole different meaning. More similar to Japanese New Year.]

[But well, when in Rome... so Dojima would be out and about, trying to find at least some gifts to give the people he'd met in the Index. ]

[Yosuke, Ren, and Minato-- friends of Yu and most other Aspects, including a particular lanky asshole-- they'd find a package of image candy and candy canes left by the doors of their rooms without a name attached, just a 'Merry Christmas'.]

[Eizen, Sylvain, Eugene and Rokurou? They'd find bottles of Port waiting for them. The Soldier that Dojima knew crept into the place at night time would find a bottle of maple syrup waiting for him in the kitchen. Kazuma would find a small lacquer box; something that apparently came from 'the Orient'. Londeva was close to Victorian England, after all, which meant it was close to the Meiji era... close to home for Kazuma. Rapunzel meanwhile got some mittens-- he honestly had no idea what a girl her age would like, so... at least it was Practical? And Helios got a scarf, because lord knows the kid looks like could fly away in the wind.

Yu would get calligraphy pen. The kid had an eye for detailed work, and maybe it wasn't 'cool', but it was interesting. Roxas, a small wooden music box. Mordred, a box of really good quality chocolate-- she had a taste for junk food, right? He had no idea how these would go over with those three, but he hoped they'd like them.

...He couldn't help but buy a stuff rabbit while he was out at the store, even if he knew the person he wanted to give it to wasn't here, and wouldn't ever be here. Maybe it was to comfort himself a little, wondering how she was doing.

And then, Finally, for Naomi... a collection of odd and weird medicines and ointments he found while dealing with cases, tinctures and powders and the like. She tended to like 'practical' things, like him, and these were... interesting to say the least.

He tried to avoid the cocaine and morphine...

He tried to be stealthy about it, not wanting to make a big deal, but you may catch him in the act of leaving you some candy or a gift--]

Ah--

[And having a flustered Dojima on your hands.]

E. Checking in-- [Locked to Naomi]

[ Whenever Naomi returned to her room, after her 'scene', she'd get a knock on her door after a few minutes.

Waiting for her was Dojima, holding two mugs of steaming coffee. ]

"Sorry for bothering you-- figured you might like something after dealing with your scene."

[Awakening back in the apartment complex they all temporarily resided in, it took a moment for Naomi to collect herself. It was strange really - remembering dying and yet, she felt less residual pain from it than she had from her surgery. Then again, being in this realm for the Story Teller, this was not her actual body either. The pain, and anything else, would likely be mental... temporary.]

[Even looking in the mirror, she no longer saw the bite marks on her throat, just some minor bruising. How curious... She turned her head at a knock at her door and walked over once she heard Dojima's voice. She opened it, completely ignoring how her attire might very well reveal the bruise on her chest. She's more focused on the coffee.]

Hm, perfect timing.
