Chapter 03: Act I
The Little Mermaid: Act I—
§ instructions.
The first Act of our third campaign is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels. There are also toplevels for each Sub Quest this time around, but players are more than welcome to create their own individual toplevel if they have something else in mind they would like to do.
As a reminder, characters will find similar information and instructions within their journals so they won't go in blind. Also to note, all characters will have all their belongings within them as well as the additional supplies provided to them by the Storyteller. As you know, everyone has undergone a special "mermaid" transformation upon arriving into the Book, but do note: characters in Main Scenes will have a second wardrobe change while acting the scene. Their merform will stay the same, but they'll have additional bits to add to their role. Outfits will be provided in the prompts themselves, and these outfits will only be in affect during the scene. The moment they leave the setting area, they return to their other wardrobe.
Finally, just to be clear, characters who are in Main Scenes are not immediately dropped in to their location and will have to travel to the "setting location" and then return. Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.
Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.

Drifting a little, she allowed the fish to swim back to its school.
"Probably. I also don't intend to harm any right now."
no subject
Not that Dojima was inclined to believe in ghosts, but you know what, he's a merman right now, so maybe he should accept that here in this world, it was more than likely.
He watched her float on, intrigued by how... everything seemed to move. He wasn't exactly a creative person, so he never imagined a jellyfish-esque mermaid. It was... pretty interesting.
"So you have this form when you enter water, like Roxas, I'm guessing?"
no subject
At least she wasn't the first to mention ghosts, and her tone said that was perfectly normal. Moving along after the fish, she was sort of going along onto patrol; whether he realized or not - he seemed mentally occupied.
"That's right. I need to submerge myself deep enough before I can transform."
no subject
Well, he felt pretty dense now. He quickly swam forward to catch up with her, then matched her pace as she moved. He hadn't realised she was going with him... or was he going with her now?
Nevermind, it didn't matter.
"I see... does it come with any sort of stipulations?"
He hadn't really talked at all to her about her essence, he realised; he had been so focused on getting out of his armor and into some better suited clothing...
All the same, he kept his eyes scanning the area-- make sure to watch the fish, and any other sea life.
no subject
"Not really. Though, it seems more at my will than a necessary 'must transform'."
If he understood. Her essence was rather strange compared to his, but she wasn't really surprised. She would get an odd job in all of this.
"It may develop in the future. Same with this foresight."
no subject
"So more like a henshin..." He murmured mostly to himself, remembering watching all those Toku shows he used to watch as a young kid. He then realised he said it out loud, and hoped that Kimishima didn't over hear it.
"Foresight?" Did she mean about knowing about the fish, or something else? "...So like how our essences are supposed to get stronger over time, right? At least... that's how it feels like."
A gut feeling. Excalibur had to do more than just glow, after all...
no subject
"Yes... I have brief moments of awareness when something will happen, or something may. Divert an event after all, and it doesn't occur." Might be the reason she could be seen out and about at the odd time. "Correct. I feel as though there's more to shifting into this form and human."
no subject
Well, it was probably fine. What Japanese kid didn't watch those shows growing up, after all? Unless her parents were anti-tv and pushed her to focus solely on studying... something he didn't really approve of, himself.
Especially considering... Never mind.
He listened to her continue on, explaining her powers-- it was his turn to raise his eyebrows a little bit. Premonitions is not something he put much value into; after all, psychics and the like were a load of horse shit, often taking advantage of troubled people for the sake of making a buck. One could argue that intuition and gut feelings fell into that, but not the way some of those scammers went on about their 'powers'.
...But she wasn't that type, and this world wasn't normal (apparently neither was his world, but details...), So why wouldn't she get premonitions? It would fall into the Sea Witch's domain, he wagered.
"What sort of events, if you don't mind me asking? Like, accidents?"
Curiouser and curiouser...
"Yeah, same. Right now I have instinctual knowledge about certain things I didn't have before, but other than that and... well," His hand went to Excalibur's hilt, "Making this thing into just a glorified night light, I haven't discovered much else. But I just feel like there's more to Arthur's abilities."
no subject
"... It has it's convenience though. It keeps my potions from overcooking, and it's not talking to ghosts again."
Again, said like nothing weird - how well was he paying attention?
Eyeing the fish around again, their patterns seem to have shifted...
"Heh, given how grand the legendary sword is supposed to be, there's no doubt."
no subject
Least he could do; besides, it was part of his job back home, and he wasn't about to get out of the habit now.
He was about to comment about Excalibur, but then something clicked in his head, after she had talked about her potions--
"--Wait, what was that about talking to ghosts?"
Thaaat definitely wasn't normal.
no subject
But they would just have to see. It wasn't anything she could control right now.
Drifting along, there it was.
"Hm? Something in passing. Nothing for you to worry about."
But it looked like the fish were swimming faster.
no subject
He'd need to pay attention to his journal more, in that case. At her dismissal of his question, he gave her a look of curiosity, and opened his mouth to ask her more questions--
Only for a fish to swim quickly, right in front of his face, causing him to pause, blink--
"...They're going quicker now, aren't they?"
A rhetorical question, but he had his hand on his hilt already, his eyes narrowing as he did a scan of the immediate area.
no subject
"They're almost here..."
The question now was... blots or Erasers? She placed a hand on her pouch, ready to open the bag.
no subject
He'd need to be careful; he only had Arthur's muscle memory to rely on, and that was in the open air, not underwater...
They heard them before they saw them. Garbled sounds, somewhere between laughter and sobbing, echoing along the palace hallways...
Before the creatures finally came into view, Dojima's eyes going wide.
Large, empty, hollow eyes that seemed almost translucent, with large gaping mouths full of very long, needle like teeth-- the mouths would twitch, switching from a deep, despairing frown with wails of sorrow to freakish smiles with howling, twisted laughter. Long, black bodies with spindly limbs, with sharp, devilish looking claws...
Dojima wondered, for a moment, if this thudding terror in his chest was what his nephew felt when he first entered the TV world, and saw what monsters' laid behind the screen.
...But he wasn't going to lose to a teenager.
The first Creature shot towards him, in what seemed like a fit of giggles, claws outstretched--
And Dojima rolled to the side, slashing upwards with Excalibur, glowing brightly as it sliced through the creatures limbs.
"Kimishima--!"
There were more coming at her--!
no subject
Her tendrils around her rose while her body lit up in a warning these things would likely not heed.
If this was how they wanted to do it.
The first one to come at her would be met by three ends of her ten tentacles and their venom while she swam away from the others. She could fight, but she wasn't a fighter in the sense. If they were going to keep coming, they were going to need some help.
no subject
Another Eater charged at him, and again he rolled, holding Excalibur sideways so that--
The Eater swam right into it, slicing it's own body in half. Two... three, down, and another five to go?
His turn to move, charging forward, slashing the sword at a wide angle to try and catch any Eaters that got close enough.
"Got any ideas for, dealing with them?--Ngh--"
Another swipe at one that got close. He was definitely open to suggestions!
no subject
"I might, but it'll take a moment."
So if he could buy time... The luminescent colors across her body began to shift, changing the pattern they were signalling. According to her journal, being inside this story gave her a little more strength.
Well, time to test it out.
no subject
Buy some time? He could do that.
Swimming in front of the sea witch, Dojima's eyes narrowed, the blade glowing brilliantly in the dim light.
He made the mental note, that maybe he should see about getting shield before the next time he fought--
No time--!
His arm moved on instinct, blocking the sudden rush from the first Eraser, then the second, third-- their teeth trying desperately to crush through the sword's blade, but to no avail. Still, if he wasn't careful, that could be his arm, next--!
no subject
Opening her eyes, several tendrils will move around Dojima to swat the Eraser latched to his sword, drawing away when the current shifts.
"... They'll be here shortly."
no subject
Those tendrils were definitely useful, and now that he wasn't focused completely on defense, he slashed at the closest Eraser, running it through.
"Damn, so these bastards are what's been destroying this world?"
No wonder the stories had fallen apart...
no subject
And with that Eraser down, they still had a few others to deal with.
Though, not on their own anymore.
Coming in hot, Naomi saw them before the first one struck the second closest Eraser: sharks.
no subject
Okay. That ability? That ability was pretty
cooluseful, especially under water like this. Asking the help of literal sharks..."Nice job--"
Okay, stop staring there, stunned. Stay out of the sharks way and hit up the Erasers that were now trying to escape--
Giving it a good slash, sending it right into a nearby palace wall.
no subject
"Think this will be enough?"
no subject
He still had a lot to learn about this whole situation, this world, but... well.
With allies like Naomi, he had a feeling it would work out alright in the end.
The Erasers were just about pulverized, the last one ripped apart by one of the sharks maw. Dojima still held onto Excalibur, just in case, but... well. Hopefully the sharks wouldn't want to make a meal out of either of them.
no subject
"... You can put the sword down; they have other fish to catch."
Even if they had wanted to try eating them, Naomi would've commanded them away.
