Chapter 03: Act I

The Little Mermaid: Act I—

§ instructions.

The first Act of our third campaign is underway! This is the designated log for all Main Scenes. Others are free to create their own toplevels for the Sub Quests, which are detailed below. Each Main Scene has their own unique toplevel and those cast into the roles are to thread their scene under each. All scene instructions are provided in the toplevels. There are also toplevels for each Sub Quest this time around, but players are more than welcome to create their own individual toplevel if they have something else in mind they would like to do.

As a reminder, characters will find similar information and instructions within their journals so they won't go in blind. Also to note, all characters will have all their belongings within them as well as the additional supplies provided to them by the Storyteller. As you know, everyone has undergone a special "mermaid" transformation upon arriving into the Book, but do note: characters in Main Scenes will have a second wardrobe change while acting the scene. Their merform will stay the same, but they'll have additional bits to add to their role. Outfits will be provided in the prompts themselves, and these outfits will only be in affect during the scene. The moment they leave the setting area, they return to their other wardrobe.

Finally, just to be clear, characters who are in Main Scenes are not immediately dropped in to their location and will have to travel to the "setting location" and then return. Threading all of that isn't necessary, but it's to help give a better idea that characters can take a break between scenes or wait a bit to help with other things like the Sub Quests.

Feel free to refer to the Game Notes for more detailed info as well as ask questions or clarifications.

[They're certainly a pair of misfits for this role, no question about it. The scene finds Elma wandering on the rocky shore, in robes completely unsuited for such an activity. Spray from the waves crashing against the rocks has already soaked the lower half of her robes, meaning they stick to her body and slide uncomfortably against her with every motion.]

[The sound of a shaking animal, more than anything else, draws her attention, and with a very mild complaint under her breath, she crests a large clump of rocks to get a view of the other side.]

...I'm not sure what I expected to see, but this isn't it.
feralhumanity: (I'll tell you all that I know)

Then that would make two of us.

[Red XIII looks up at his companion, dressed in a similar fashion as himself.]

So we are the ones to fulfill this part of the story? Odd, but I suppose this is part of our duty to help repair these stories.
bladebabysitter: (oh look it's telethia)

Right. And I'm pretty sure we're supposed to go... [She motions with her head, calling attention to the castle perilously far up above.]
feralhumanity: (No terrain is too difficult)

[He follows her gaze, looking up the dangerous-looking path that lay ahead of them.]

I doubt the path will be easy. We will need to take care as we travel. I will do my best to help you if you need it.
bladebabysitter: (oh look it's telethia)

And here I was about to say the same. [Amused, she finds herself feeling a little affinity for this strange creature. Not that he's stranger than most of the xenoforms she's met, even if he did resemble an indigen more than most.] I think we'll both find the occasion to help the other.
feralhumanity: (The world will teach you more)

[personal profile] feralhumanity 2019-07-22 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I appreciate it.

[He grins at her, before turning to the path.]

Then let us be off. The sooner we are able to return to the castle, the sooner things will get back to normal.
bladebabysitter: (oh look it's telethia)

Such as they are. [And if they rewrite this to slightly more equitable circumstances, that won't be a bad thing, will it?]

That being said, the fastest way is up there. [She nods to a very large boulder, fairly sheer, which if they surmounted it would cut a rather long and winding switchback off of their path.] But not the easiest.
feralhumanity: (Do you mind?)

[personal profile] feralhumanity 2019-07-30 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
[He looks up at the boulder in question, and. Huh. That does look rather difficult to traverse...]

But it could take a great bit of time to go around it... There must be a way to make it easier to climb.
bladebabysitter: (i'll tell you again so don't mess up thi)

[personal profile] bladebabysitter 2019-07-30 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
On Mira, we ended up facing this sort of thing all the time. There were particular sorts of indigens that loved to take up residence right on the paths or trails that were easy to walk, and at the beginning when our equipment was poor and some of our team members didn't have much training, we couldn't have fought them successfully in any way.

[As she speaks, Elma moves up to the rock, reaching up to get a grip on it. Such is the power of the story that her fingers find a handhold she hadn't expected, and with careful movements she begins to climb up. Follow along? The story has weight enough for two.]
feralhumanity: (Son of a warrior)

[personal profile] feralhumanity 2019-07-31 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
[The handhold was a surprising find, and Red XIII is quick to follow along. He may have a bit of trouble with his paws, but he follows easily enough.]

Is that so? That almost sounds cruel of them.
bladebabysitter: (look i'm not a silent protagonist)

[personal profile] bladebabysitter 2019-08-02 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Only if you consider nature to be cruel. I suspect it helped them survive, by giving them access to food. They certainly seemed to think we were it, even in our Mims. [She talks and climbs, the two interconnected thanks to her essence, and as she reaches the top she grabs onto a convenient outcropping and hauls herself up. Settled, she turns and sticks a hand down. He can take it with his paw, right?]
feralhumanity: (No terrain is too difficult)

[personal profile] feralhumanity 2019-08-06 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Quite the opposite; I know full well the necessities needed to survive in nature. But to hunt those significantly weaker than yourself isn't exactly an honourable task. [he could understand both sides of the situation; the chance of easy prey versus the honour of hunting a worthy foe.]

[Seeing the offered hand, he hops up on his hind legs and accepts the hand with his paw, using it and his hind legs to half-leap, half-pull himself up.]

I take it you showed them that you are not easy prey?
bladebabysitter: (oh look it's telethia)

[personal profile] bladebabysitter 2019-08-08 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Elma is quite strong; braced as she is, she has no problem adding a little impetus to his rise. Once he gets all four paws on the ground, she straightens up, dusts her hands off, then starts up the path once more.]

We tried to avoid fighting where we could, but, well. I'm here and they're not, right?
