It's a system put in place to ensure a fair verdict. The judge may have the final say, but a verdict can't be ruled if the jurors do not agree as well. They basically check each other, like how defense attorneys and prosecutors do. [. . .] But as you say, there's room for subjectivity.

[He shrugs.] I never said it was a perfect system.
