Not sure if it's the same as this one, but all I remember is some kid getting some magic gels, and when he dropped one it just grew this giant tree that led high into the sky. When he climbed it, there was a giant Gentleman monster there to greet him.

And try to eat him.

...Yeah, it was kind of a messed up children's story now that I think about it...
