So like... in my world, we're way more modern than yours is. We have machines that work like the journals do; letting us communicate instantly to one another, either via text or voice. We got super tall buildings, and machines that we can sit in to drive us around instead of using horses.

[ He's going somewhere with this, honestly-- ]

So like, magic, folklore-- it used to be what everyone believed, but with science, it all sorta shifted to the background. Fairy tales and stuff. Monsters weren't real, magic wasn't. We had uh... games and things that talked about it, and urban legends and ghost stories with things, but we all knew it wasn't real...

[ A pause for dramatic effect. ]

And then one night when I went to go get some food from a store, the clock hit midnight and suddenly all the elec-- uh, lights went out, the moon was hanging suuuuper low in the sky and glowing green, and it looked like the ground was covered in blood--

And all the people around me turned into coffins. Just black coffins standing up in the middle of the road, in the store...
